Every Wednesday evening this September, we celebrate the enigmatic genius of Michelangelo Antonioni with a curated selection of his most iconic films. From the haunting silences of L’Avventura to the visual poetry of Blow-Up, Antonioni’s work reshaped cinematic language—favoring mood, ambiguity, and existential depth over conventional storytelling. His films invite us to linger in the spaces between words, where alienation, desire, and modernity collide.

Born on September 29, 1912, in Ferrara, Italy, and passing away on July 30, 2007, in Rome, Antonioni left behind a legacy that continues to challenge and inspire filmmakers worldwide. He was the only director to win the Palme d'Or, Golden Lion, Golden Bear, and Golden Leopard, and received an Honorary Oscar in 1995 for his masterful visual style. His trilogy—L’Avventura, La Notte, and L’Eclisse—remains a cornerstone of modernist cinema, exploring the discontents of contemporary life with unmatched elegance and introspection.

About the film: Red Desert (1964), directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, is a haunting psychological drama set against the bleak industrial backdrop of Ravenna, Italy. The film follows Giuliana, a fragile and emotionally unstable woman recovering from a traumatic car accident, as she struggles to find meaning and connection in a world dominated by machinery, pollution, and alienation. Married to a factory manager but emotionally adrift, she begins a tentative affair with Corrado Zeller, a visiting engineer, hoping to escape her inner turmoil. Through vivid, surreal use of color and desolate landscapes, Antonioni paints a portrait of modern existential despair, making Red Desert a landmark in cinematic expression of psychological isolation.

Through PechaKucha-style talks and curated networking, we spotlight diverse journeys in climate finance, policy, entrepreneurship, and development—fostering connection, inspiration, and peer learning.

A circle of stories, reflections, and song

Love has many forms — gentle, fiery, divine, human. Inspired by The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak and the timeless words of Rumi, this baithak is a space to pause, listen, and share. Together, we will reflect on love through:

✨ Stories from the book and our own lives
✨ Baatein (conversations) on what love means to us in its many shades
✨ Anubhav (experiences) of holding love in community
✨ A closing song in Farsi — a gift from Rumi’s verses

This gathering is not a lecture, but a collective holding — a chance to sit in circle, share from the heart, and let all of us find a community to hold and share our experiences of love.

Noon Meem Rashid’s last collection of poetry appeared in 1976 with the posthumous release of Gumān ka Mumkin. Nearly fifty years later comes Zindagi Se Darte Ho (Rajkamal Prakashan, 2025), a book compiled and edited by Amitabh Singh Baghel. It is the first published collection of Noon Meem Rashid’s nazms in Devanagari script, bringing his original poetic voice to Hindi readers for the first time in the form of a book.


Amitabh Singh Baghel is a literary curator known for creating distinctive platforms for literature, poetry and ideas. He is the Founder of the Nainital Literature Festival (2025), acclaimed in Condé Nast Traveller, The Week, The Print, and The Times of India for its thoughtful curation and wide resonance. He also founded the Aaghaz Poetry Movement, which brings Urdu and Hindustani verse to audiences worldwide. His debut book, Zindagi Se Darte Ho, was published by Rajkamal Prakashan in 2025. Earlier, he established the Koshala Literature Festival (2022) and he is the Festival Director of the inaugural Jindal Literature Festival (to debut in November 2025).
