It will trace the rapid evolution through the 20th century—communications, Earth observation, weather forecasting, navigation, and defense—unpacking how satellites became essential to both everyday life and global geopolitics.

As we move into the 21st century, the session will highlight the shift from large, government-built satellites to small satellite constellations, private space ventures, and India's growing capabilities through missions like CartoSAT, NISAR culminating in modern projects like ISRO’s and private sector participation.

Art and literature can be seen as extensions of the human mind. Very often they can reveal what lies within, sometimes visibly, and, sometimes, not quite so visibly. The movie club is (we hope) a fun way of looking deeper into the emotions, perceptions and thoughts that weave human relationships together or tear them apart. A movie may be treated as a true story or, alternatively, can be used as a tool to try and figure out what went on in the directors head when the movie was made. Either way, it’s a different way of understanding human behavior and relationships. In the end, by looking deeper into another’s story, we hope, perchance, to understand ourselves better.

Every Wednesday in August 2025, Lamakaan will echo with cinematic reverence as it hosts “Remembering John Huston”—a tribute to one of Hollywood’s most daring and enduring auteurs. Born on August 5, 1906, in Nevada, Missouri, and passing away on August 28, 1987, Huston’s life spanned eight decades of artistic rebellion, storytelling mastery, and global wanderlust. His legacy includes 37 directed films, most of which he also wrote, and many are now considered timeless classics. About the Director: From redefining noir with The Maltese Falcon to capturing the raw human spirit in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Huston’s work was marked by philosophical depth, visual elegance, and a fascination with flawed characters on existential quests. He directed his father, Walter Huston, to an Oscar, and decades later, his daughter, Anjelica Huston, to hers, making cinema a family affair. At Lamakaan, these Wednesdays will not just screen his films—they’ll celebrate a man who turned literature into living images and made imperfection beautiful.

About the film: Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison is a 1957 American CinemaScope war film directed by John Huston. It stars Deborah Kerr as an Irish nun and Robert Mitchum as a U.S. Marine, both stranded on a Japanese-occupied island in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

The film was adapted by John Huston and John Lee Mahin from the 1952 novel by Charles Shaw and was directed by Huston. It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Deborah Kerr) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

We are the last generation that had the opportunity to experience natural tribal communities hiding in inaccessible parts of our world. When they disappear from our planet, we will lose their ancient secrets of how to maintain the fragile harmony of nature on Earth.

Punjab is facing a major problem like floods and water crisis because illegal and unnatural mining of sand, gravel and stone is taking place in rivers, mountains and forests on a large scale in Punjab. Mohan Singh Aulakh is an Indian independent filmmaker known for his thought-provoking documentaries that shed light on social issues.

Young Orators' Club (est. 1969) is the oldest member-run club in Hyderabad that is dedicated to oratory and critical thinking. Since 1969 we have held regular sessions every Saturday, from 05:30 PM to 08:30 PM, at the YMCA, Secunderabad.

We have no age-limits, mandatory dress codes, or entry restrictions - everyone is allowed to freely walk in and participate in the session. If you are curious or wish to work on improving your public-speaking skills, walk in this Saturday and discover a welcoming community of passionate orators.

As the play unfolds, a series of unexpected twists and turns shape the actor’s journey. The role deepens, the character comes to life, and the production descends into increasingly darker territory. What begins as performance soon blurs with reality, drawing the director and actor into a shadowy world of obsession, betrayal, and madness.

A young man, frustrated after being fired from multiple jobs, reaches his breaking point. In response, his former professors take a clever test to challenge his perception and prove his intelligence. Will they succeed in changing his mind and sending him back with a new perspective?
