Dear Future Children
Thu Apr 25, 7:00 PM
Goethe - Zentrum Hyderabad & Lamakaan
Dear Future Children tells of the challenges faced by activists of different international movements. The film aims to uncover their motivations and, among other things, also looks at how the organizational forms of the protests evolve.
Dear Future Children focuses on the political work of three activists whose struggles are often associated with enormous personal risk. In Chile, Rayen protests for social justice; in Hong Kong, Pepper is committed to the survival of democracy; and in Uganda, Hilda is dedicated to working against the devastating consequences of climate change. The three narrative threads are linked by the shared irrepressible will of the young activists and their comrades-in-arms not to be defeated by the existing system and to fight for a better world. The events in the respective locations and the people involved are captured up close and intimately by the camera and director Franz Böhm – both on location during protests and public events and in very personal conversations.

Longen Folk To Go On Pilgrimage
Fri May 17, 7:30 PM
Kunal Vohra
This self-funded documentary is about what used to be a little known event until the 1980s but which has now become the single largest annual pilgrimage in India: the Kanwar Yatra. The film looks at not just the religious and cultural aspects of the Yatra but also its socio-economic impact, the environmental issues attached to it (for instance, the state of the Ganga and the potential for man-animal conflict, etc), the sheer maleness of the event, and how the occasion is being used by Hindu right-wing groups to push their majoritarian agenda and the showcase it has become for Hindu nationalism.

The nearly 90-minute film was shot over a period of six years and was an official selection at the 8th Kolkata People's Film Festival in 2022. The film has had a screening at Prithvi Theatre, Bombay, and over 35 universities across the world, including Princeton, Yale, Columbia and Stanford, have acquired it to screen/stream it for their students, faculty and staff.

Remembering Rainer W Fassbinder
Wed May 8, 7:00 PM
Lamakaan
In the hottest month of summer, May, Lamakaan brings you a cool breeze of retro films by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, considered to be a catalyst of the New German Cinema Movement.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder (German: [ˈʁaɪnɐ ˈvɛʁnɐ ˈfasbɪndɐ] ⓘ; 31 May 1945 – 10 June 1982), sometimes credited as R. W. Fassbinder,[1] was a German filmmaker, actor, and dramatist. He is widely regarded as one of the major figures and catalysts of the New German Cinema movement. Versatile and prolific, his over 40 films span a variety of genres, most frequently blending elements of Hollywood melodrama with social criticism and avant-garde techniques.[2] His films, according to him, explored "the exploitability of feelings".[3][4] His work was deeply rooted in post-war German culture: the aftermath of Nazism, the German economic miracle, and the terror of the Red Army Faction. He worked with a company of actors and technicians who frequently appeared in his projects.
