Climate change is a global problem. It is a contemporary problem. It may seem counterintuitive, but the solution to this modern global problem is in local, indigenous knowledge based, community driven, de centralized water management.

Speaker Rajendra Singh is an Indian water conservationist and environmentalist from Alwar district, Rajasthan in India. Also known as "waterman of India", he won the Magsaysay Award in 2001 and Stockholm Water Prize in 2015. He runs an NGO called 'Tarun Bharat Sangh', which was founded in 1975.

I wanted to conduct Creative Art and Craft workshop for interested children and adults. We have already conducted workshops and exhibition to government, social welfare, and private schools of Telangana and AP. This program of art with paper was identified by National Handicrafts, New Delhi. The main motto of this workshop is to develop creative skills, develop interest, develop knowledge of art and craft. Through this workshop, the children and adults will be educated and will be inculcated the skills of concentration, knowledge and all other educational and developmental skills.

Injustice and curbing of freedom of expression are worth sacrificing the biggest of power positions

Kannan Gopinath stands by democracy and free speech. He was an IAS officer who resigned in protest to the Centre's clampdown in Kashmir abrogating Article 370 and 35A. He stated, "What triggered my decision is the attempt to mutilate fundamental rights, to silence people. And the situation is that nobody should protest, nobody should raise their voice, raising your voice is not acceptable. The amount of power to silence those who react is tremendous,”
In this juncture of history of the country, where speaking truth to power is seen as an attack on the State and its machineries Gopinathan will talk about his experience in the service and his way forward. The shrinking democratic spaces within the administrative bureaucracy and the public sphere with the legitimisation of the rule of law is another aspect democratic aspirants had to deal in the current political scenario.

Join us for the premiere screening of Songs of Our Soil followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Aditi Maddali and writer - scholar Dr Gogu Shyamala.

Through Uyyala songs, an agricultural tradition rooted in the political expression of women in Telangana, Songs of Our Soil traces the histories of their resistance and memories of disillusionment. By looking at women’s participation in major political movements, from the Telangana People’s Movement to the demands of justice from the contemporary Mallana Sagar Irrigation project, this film attempts to complicate the relationship between memory, history and cultural production.

Aditi Maddali is a Mumbai-based researcher and multimedia producer. She is currently pursuing an MPhil in Women's Studies.

Aditi Maddali received a grant from India Foundation for the Arts, under the Arts Research programme made possible with support from Titan Company Limited.

This two day workshop is for beginners.During this workshop participants will learn the technique of woodcut printmaking which is one of the oldest printing method. Participants will learn from preparing a 2D visual image to carving it on a flat piece of wood to finally printing it in black and white. Participants can bring a drawing or an image they want to work on or they can come unprepared. Each participant will get to print three identical prints of the composition. All the materials will be provided during the workshop.

We CHRA (Council for Harm Reduced Alternatives) are a not-for-profit organization working towards tobacco harm reduction in the country. We are organising a meeting to express our point of view regarding the e-cigarette ban by the central government recently. NATIONAL REGISTER OF CITIZENS’s (NRC) final list for Assam was released recently. Around 17 lakhs individuals have been left out of the list including a retired army veteran. In some families the father’s name is in the list but his son’s isn’t. Many people have committed suicides as they weren’t part of this final list.A petition has been filed in the Supreme court as 2000 transgenders were left out.
Detention camps are also under construction in Assam for detaining all the ones that will be declared foreign intruders. So far, the whole process has been daunting for the marginalized sections to produce the documents proving them as the citizen of this country.Amid so many inadequacies in the NRC Assam, Amith Shah has announced his desire to implement NRC all over the country.

At this point we feel that it is important to understand the relevance and implications of NRC, therefore lets us get together to discuss it and understand on 29th September at 4pm in Lamakaan.

Four-Play is a piece of performance art curated by Patruni Sastry in which the subject will be playing few games names EGO, POWER, LUST AND Seduction. a performance piece involving body , art and how body becomes the part of art Performance art is a performance presented to an audience within a fine art context, traditionally interdisciplinary. Performance may be either scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous or otherwise carefully planned with or without audience participation. The performance can be live or via media; the performer can be present or absent. It can be any situation that involves four basic elements: time, space, the performer's body, or presence in a medium, and a relationship between performer and audience. Performance art can happen anywhere, in any type of venue or setting and for any length of time. The actions of an individual or a group at a particular place and in a particular time constitute the work.

Written by Moliere and translated into Telugu by Vinayamani PISINARI is about a miser whose only concern in life is his cash. He's so obsessed with money, in fact, that he nearly tries to strip search everyone who goes in and out of his house. We also find out that the miser has buried a small box filled with a lot of money in his backyard that he's paranoid about someone stealing.

Meanwhile, his son and daughter have both fallen in love with their respective partners. But the miser wants his son's lover for himself and wants his daughter to marry a rich old man. The son and daughter hatch a plot to make the miser give up his designs so they can finally be happy. Will they succeed in their plan?

MANCHAM MEEDA MANISHI
Written by Appalachari this satire is about an old man Govindam. One day Govindam falls sick and this news reached his sons and daughters. They arrive at his home and start squabbling about who will get Govindam's property and wealth. While this is on, the doctor arrives and gives them an interesting update on their fathers health. What happens to Govindam? Who gets the property? Lets find out by watching this hilarious satire.

A Tale of Two Extremes: Islamist Reactions to Hindutva Nationalism - A Talk by Hari Prasad

The establishment of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent and the Islamic State coincided with the rise of a Hindutva government in India. Today, both ISIS and AQIS are competing throughout South Asia to win recruits, conduct terror attacks, and foment religious turmoil—and both have increasingly fixed their gaze on India. While it has been widely recognized these two Salafi-Jihadist movements are seeking to exploit Muslim-Hindu communal tensions in India for their own gain, less attention has been paid to their rhetoric about the Modi government and the social and political ascendancy of Hindutva or Hindu Nationalism. This dynamic demands greater attention.



This presentation followed by an encompassing discussion will take a look at how these extremist organizations have discussed Hindutva activity in India, and the narrative they form.





About the Speaker:

Hari Prasad is a Research Associate at Critica Research and Analysis where he focuses on the Middle East and South Asian politics and security. He has previously worked for renowned Washington DC-based think tanks like the Hudson Institute, the United States Institute of Peace, and obtained his MA International Relations from the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs.



His writings have been published in prominent academic journals and media outlets such as the GW International Affairs Review, The Diplomat, The Harvard Journal of Middle Eastern Politics and Policy, The Wire, and the Stimson Institute’s blog – South Asian Voices.



Prasad’s latest academic research publication “The Salafi-Jihadist Reaction to Hindu Nationalism” was recently featured in Volume 21 of The Hudson Institute’s prestigious scholarly journal “Current Trends in Islamist Ideology.”



He recently gave a more formal presentation on Countering Extremist workshop organized by Nanyang Technological University – S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies’ Centre of Excellence for National Security. At this two day workshop, his presentation - based off his latest research paper - helped policymakers, mid to senior-level officers/analysts, and academics tips in examining radicalization, countering violent extremism, and terrorism.

Kaavad is a traditional visual story telling device of Rajasthan. It is a portable wooden shrine, with visual illustrations of mythological and folk tales painted on wooden panels. The storyteller opens them in sequence of the events of his narration. The motto of the Kaavad was to spread the religious and social importance in public life and also record ones family history.

In this dark examination of love and money, Fox (Rainer Werner Fassbinder) is a young, gay member of the German working class. When he meets the older and dapper Max, who has upper-class roots, Fox thinks he may have found someone to help him out, but Max refuses to do so. However, this changes when Fox wins big on the lottery, and Max becomes friendlier and helps to reinvent Fox. But, in fact, Max and his friends are slyly trying to swindle him out of his new fortune.

Yvan Detraz is a French architect, Director of Bruit du Frigo.
Bruit du Frigo (Fridge noise) was founded in 1997. The collective is composed by a permanent group of artists, architects, urbanists, photographers and a flexible collaboration with various professionals and inhabitants, depending on the type of project. It is a hybrid between an urban planning practice, a creative collective and a popular education structure dedicated to the study and intervention at city and territory level through participatory, artistic and cultural initiatives.
Its aim is to study the quality of the environment in its broadest sense: not just its architecture, townscape, ecology or landscape, but its perception as a cultural experience. It also improves singular and particular procedures that have the capacity to bring about change. The result is intended to be the provision of an educational experience that is accessible to all, the offer of an effective mediation service and the encouragement of cultural and artistic innovation.
Topic of the intervention will be: “Creative city and desirable development”
 Can a transitional urbanism be imagined as an alternative to the a well-planned, meant to last urban design?
 An urbanism of prefiguration toward new possible
 An urbanism revealing the potential poetry and usage of premises
 A permissive urbanism based on light and reversible interventions to give a real place to collective appropriation initiatives
 A urbanism to fight against public space impoverishment and self-withdrawal by inventing stimulating, desirable common spaces

Art and literature can be seen as extensions of the human mind. Very often they can reveal what lies within, sometimes visibly, and, sometimes, not quite so visibly. The movie club is (we hope) a fun way of looking deeper into the emotions, perceptions and thoughts that weave human relationships together or tear them apart. A movie may be treated as a true story or, alternatively, can be used as a tool to try and figure out what went on in the directors head when the movie was made. Either way, it’s a different way of understanding human behavior and relationships. In the end, by looking deeper into another’s story, we hope, perchance, to understand ourselves better.

The story begins when Sudheer comes to ‘see’ Aarti for marriage and goes on to evaluate, through these two characters, the existentialist tussle between what one has to be vs what one wants to be, how one chooses to live vs how one wishes to live. Aarti has this unusual idea of role playing each other in order to momentarily be what they each wish to be. It turns out to be more than just ‘Chuhal’ (meaning playful tease) and starts getting serious. But, does it help them answer their questions? Does it raise more questions? Watch this play to see where it goes.

1 Ek Akeli Aurat ( Synopsis ) - Locked in a flat, a solitary woman makes her confession. Amid domestic chores, dodgy phone calls, a sex-mad brother-in-law and a forever screaming baby she tells us the story of how her love for a young student led to her imprisonment at the hands of her jealous husband. Through farce to tragedy, her story propels the audience to its shocking climax.

2 Pichle Ikkis Saal ( Synopsis ) - “Insecurity, complex, pollution, money, cell phones, drugs, orkut, facebook, relationships, manners, ethics, love, parents, pressure, sex, freedom, capitalism, education , dependence, awareness, guilt, communication, happiness, confusion...Why do I do the things, which I do? I think rubbish. I feel rubbish... Who am I?
I am not a hardcore rightist, nor a leftist. Not even a orthodox brahmin nor a suppressed dalit. Not a gay nor a part of the minority, not a lefty, or mentally ill..Who the hell am I? Just a oversensitive guy.. confused.. trapped!?

Where do I go.. ? What do I do? Will drugs help? Or should turn a blind eye? That wont help, I have tried.. I have tried everything.. Everyone has tried everything..”

Based on a real-life story, the 48-minute pocket film “I REMEMBER…” traces the journey of a woman and her family as they come to terms with the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Produced and directed by a senior journalist Geeta Lal Sahai, the movie moves through the intense experience of both – the affected individual and the caregivers evoking questions about the fragility of memory, the aesthetics of care, institutional support for mental health and the difficult choice of loving and letting go.



The movie has won six awards – Los Angeles Film Award, Accolade Global Film Award, Awareness Film Award, Cult Critic Award, New Delhi Film Festival Award and the Virgin Spring Cinefest Award.



It has been officially selected for the Kolkatta International Film Festival, Bioscope Film Festival and the Depth of Field Film Festival.

Synopsis 1
A documentary by first-time filmmaker Jessica Yu, which tackles the macro issue of a possible
impending water crisis in a macro way. Last Call at the Oasis offers not only solutions that are
being examined and soon to be implemented ways to steer us away from economical
uncertainty if we begin to lose our dependence on water, but also explores a number of different
issues and smaller little conflicts that makeup and define the grandiose term " water crisis." We
open with a quote frighteningly stating that we could soon be fighting wars over water instead of
oil. People have taken for granted the seemingly unlimited supply of water we've been blessed
to have, but with a simple turn of the tap or even a trip to a nearby shop, we have access to as
much water as we can get our hands-on. One man states how our water supply is " infinite and
exhaustible," and how water is constantly reused, but we are beginning to dispose of it at a rate
so fast and uncontrollable that we are approaching a darker future, where water will be harder to
access and even more difficult to store.
Contamination and the popularity of bottled water are tackled here as well. As we see the
poignant images of women around the world lugging barrels of water at their sides or on their
heads, returning to a place where not a drop is in sight, while we make a trip to the store to
purchase bottled water and return home to a place where a simple turn of a tap can give us
more of the same thing, we question the logic of the situation and the complete and total
arrogance of it all. We've been told time and time again that bottled water is allegedly better for
us and are under the impression that it is more closely monitored than traditional tap water. Yet
a close look proves us naive, as even in the US, there have been hundreds of recalls of bottled
water because of contamination, glass particles in the water, and even mould.

National Language of India: a myth or reality a talk by Shyam Rudra Pathak

"Compulsory status of English is causing large scale ruination of our talents from the group of non-English knowing people. There is a high correlation between the English knowing people and the affluent sections of the society. The compulsory status of English in all India competitive examinations produces a merit list which is in favour of the English knowing society of the country. This leads to the exclusion of the talents who are not in a position to receive education in the English medium. Government schools by and large teach the vast number of students in the media of Indian languages, whereas the competitive examinations held on the all India level are mostly held in the English medium and they contain compulsory English language paper as well. This situation not only deprives the students of the lower and middle stratum of the society of getting the developmental opportunities, but it also deprives the country of using its vast pool of the natural resource of the talents of its majority of the people. This is one of the root causes of the backwardness of this country. One additional dimension to the discrimination on the linguistic basis is among the Hindi belt and nonhindi belt people because there are many developmental opportunities being made available in the Hindi medium but not in the nonHindi Indian languages' media. Indians are the rarest of the unfortunate people in this world where people cannot seek justice in their own languages in the high courts and the Supreme court according to the constitutional provision laid down in article 348 of the Indian constitution. However, the central government goes beyond the constitution of India in discriminating between the Hindi belt and nonhindi belt people while making linguistic provisions in the high courts.

A brief about the Speaker:
Shyam Rudra Pathak is India's social-cultural worker. He is the coordinator of 'Campaign and Development Campaign' campaign.

He has written about himself: "If I recollect my childhood days I realize that I took deeper interest in agricultural activities before I started taking interest in studies. I remember I was considered a weak student for many years in my village school. I started taking interest in studies when I was asked to prepare for the admission test of Netarhat Vidyalay at the age of eleven or twelve. I passed that admission test and took admission in that school in class VI from where I appeared in my matriculation board examination. I was provided a silver medal by the Bihar board for securing one of the top ten positions in the 1979 secondary school examination.
In 1980 I took admission in 5 years integrated M S Physics course in IIT Delhi after obtaining an all India rank of 1330 in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the IITs.
I got the first position in the All India GATE 1985 examination and took admission in M Tech in Energy Studies in IIT Delhi in 1985.
The biggest achievement of my life is the removal of compulsory English Language Paper in JEE from 1988 and the introduction of optional Indian Languages media in JEE from 1990. My efforts for this included several fasts as well, the longest among which was of nineteen and a half days duration undertaken in July/August 1989.

I wrote my MS Physics project report in Hindi in IIT Delhi and it was first rejected on that ground but was later on accepted after the issue was highlighted in newspapers, magazines and finally in the Parliament. The degrees started being given in Hindi and English in IITD from the convocation of 1985 after I refused to accept it in English alone, for which the convocation of the year 1985 had to be postponed in which the then PM Rajeev Gandhi was the chief guest. I wrote my M Tech Project Report also in Hindi, which was also not accepted in the beginning but was later on accepted after the issue was raised by some parliamentarians.

I worked as a research scholar in Energy Studies in IIT Delhi and in Astrophysics in TIFR Mumbai and TIFR Pune. I was expelled twice from TIFR Pune during this programme, although I held the first rank in the all India written examination for the research scholars selection of the TIFR and I had also obtained the first rank in the graduate programme (course woks and project) for the research scholars of TIFR Pune of my batch.

I took part in the anti Mandal agitation in 1990 and was sent to Tihar jail in that connection for about two days.

I remained in the Tihar Jail for the second time from July 17 till July 24, 2013 after refusing to stop my Dharana in spite of being arrested and released every day on 225 days from December 4, 2012 till July 16, 2013 in front of the residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the National head office of the congress party in Delhi. This Dharana was undertaken with the demand of amending article 348 of the Indian Constitution so that people can seek justice in their languages in the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.
I was made the sole leader of the CSAT agitation during its later half period by the thousands of agitating UPSC aspirants in 2014 in Delhi. I am still facing a criminal case filed by the Modi govt against me in this connection."

Speaker Rajendra Singh is an Indian water conservationist and environmentalist from Alwar district, Rajasthan in India. Also known as "waterman of India", he won the Magsaysay Award in 2001 and Stockholm Water Prize in 2015. He runs an NGO called 'Tarun Bharat Sangh', which was founded in 1975.

Through Uyyala songs, an agricultural tradition rooted in the political expression of women in Telangana, Songs of Our Soil traces the histories of their resistance and memories of disillusionment. By looking at women’s participation in major political movements, from the Telangana People’s Movement to the demands of justice from the contemporary Mallana Sagar Irrigation project, this film attempts to complicate the relationship between memory, history and cultural production.

Aditi Maddali is a Mumbai-based researcher and multimedia producer. She is currently pursuing an MPhil in Women's Studies.

This two day workshop is for beginners.During this workshop participants will learn the technique of woodcut printmaking which is one of the oldest printing method. Participants will learn from preparing a 2D visual image to carving it on a flat piece of wood to finally printing it in black and white. Participants can bring a drawing or an image they want to work on or they can come unprepared. Each participant will get to print three identical prints of the composition. All the materials will be provided during the workshop.

NATIONAL REGISTER OF CITIZENS’s (NRC) final list for Assam was released recently. Around 17 lakhs individuals have been left out of the list including a retired army veteran. In some families the father’s name is in the list but his son’s isn’t. Many people have committed suicides as they weren’t part of this final list.A petition has been filed in the Supreme court as 2000 transgenders were left out.
Detention camps are also under construction in Assam for detaining all the ones that will be declared foreign intruders. So far, the whole process has been daunting for the marginalized sections to produce the documents proving them as the citizen of this country.Amid so many inadequacies in the NRC Assam, Amith Shah has announced his desire to implement NRC all over the country.

At this point we feel that it is important to understand the relevance and implications of NRC, therefore lets us get together to discuss it and understand on 29th September at 4pm in Lamakaan.

Performance may be either scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous or otherwise carefully planned with or without audience participation. The performance can be live or via media; the performer can be present or absent. It can be any situation that involves four basic elements: time, space, the performer's body, or presence in a medium, and a relationship between performer and audience. Performance art can happen anywhere, in any type of venue or setting and for any length of time. The actions of an individual or a group at a particular place and in a particular time constitute the work.

Written by Moliere and translated into Telugu by Vinayamani PISINARI is about a miser whose only concern in life is his cash. He's so obsessed with money, in fact, that he nearly tries to strip search everyone who goes in and out of his house. We also find out that the miser has buried a small box filled with a lot of money in his backyard that he's paranoid about someone stealing.

Meanwhile, his son and daughter have both fallen in love with their respective partners. But the miser wants his son's lover for himself and wants his daughter to marry a rich old man. The son and daughter hatch a plot to make the miser give up his designs so they can finally be happy. Will they succeed in their plan?

MANCHAM MEEDA MANISHI
Written by Appalachari this satire is about an old man Govindam. One day Govindam falls sick and this news reached his sons and daughters. They arrive at his home and start squabbling about who will get Govindam's property and wealth. While this is on, the doctor arrives and gives them an interesting update on their fathers health. Written by Moliere and translated into Telugu by Vinayamani PISINARI is about a miser whose only concern in life is his cash. He's so obsessed with money, in fact, that he nearly tries to strip search everyone who goes in and out of his house. We also find out that the miser has buried a small box filled with a lot of money in his backyard that he's paranoid about someone stealing.

Meanwhile, his son and daughter have both fallen in love with their respective partners. But the miser wants his son's lover for himself and wants his daughter to marry a rich old man. The son and daughter hatch a plot to make the miser give up his designs so they can finally be happy. Will they succeed in their plan?

MANCHAM MEEDA MANISHI
Written by Appalachari this satire is about an old man Govindam. One day Govindam falls sick and this news reached his sons and daughters. They arrive at his home and start squabbling about who will get Govindam's property and wealth. While this is on, the doctor arrives and gives them an interesting update on their fathers health. What happens to Govindam? Who gets the property? Lets find out by watching this hilarious satire.

Artwist@work is an arts-based, fun-based creative workshop. This endeavor focuses on how to use creative tools like clay, colors, writing tools to improve one's own expression,use art as a confidence builder, sharpen your skills, by balancing left and right brain coordination through art exercises, this workshop is an absolute colour play, participants are given time-based creative tasks,which they have to perform using their creative skills.

A Tale of Two Extremes: Islamist Reactions to Hindutva Nationalism - A Talk by Hari Prasad

The establishment of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent and the Islamic State coincided with the rise of a Hindutva government in India. Today, both ISIS and AQIS are competing throughout South Asia to win recruits, conduct terror attacks, and foment religious turmoil—and both have increasingly fixed their gaze on India. While it has been widely recognized these two Salafi-Jihadist movements are seeking to exploit Muslim-Hindu communal tensions in India for their own gain, less attention has been paid to their rhetoric about the Modi government and the social and political ascendancy of Hindutva or Hindu Nationalism. This dynamic demands greater attention.



This presentation followed by an encompassing discussion will take a look at how these extremist organizations have discussed Hindutva activity in India, and the narrative they form.





About the Speaker:

Hari Prasad is a Research Associate at Critica Research and Analysis where he focuses on the Middle East and South Asian politics and security. He has previously worked for renowned Washington DC-based think tanks like the Hudson Institute, the United States Institute of Peace, and obtained his MA International Relations from the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs.



His writings have been published in prominent academic journals and media outlets such as the GW International Affairs Review, The Diplomat, The Harvard Journal of Middle Eastern Politics and Policy, The Wire, and the Stimson Institute’s blog – South Asian Voices.



Prasad’s latest academic research publication “The Salafi-Jihadist Reaction to Hindu Nationalism” was recently featured in Volume 21 of The Hudson Institute’s prestigious scholarly journal “Current Trends in Islamist Ideology.”



He recently gave a more formal presentation on Countering Extremist workshop organized by Nanyang Technological University – S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies’ Centre of Excellence for National Security. At this two day workshop, his presentation - based off his latest research paper - helped policymakers, mid to senior-level officers/analysts, and academics tips in examining radicalization, countering violent extremism, and terrorism.

Kaavad is a traditional visual story telling device of Rajasthan. It is a portable wooden shrine, with visual illustrations of mythological and folk tales painted on wooden panels. The storyteller opens them in sequence of the events of his narration. The motto of the Kaavad was to spread the religious and social importance in public life and also record ones family history.

In this dark examination of love and money, Fox (Rainer Werner Fassbinder) is a young, gay member of the German working class. When he meets the older and dapper Max, who has upper-class roots, Fox thinks he may have found someone to help him out, but Max refuses to do so. However, this changes when Fox wins big on the lottery, and Max becomes friendlier and helps to reinvent Fox. But, in fact, Max and his friends are slyly trying to swindle him out of his new fortune.

Yvan Detraz is a French architect, Director of Bruit du Frigo.
Bruit du Frigo (Fridge noise) was founded in 1997. The collective is composed by a permanent group of artists, architects, urbanists, photographers and a flexible collaboration with various professionals and inhabitants, depending on the type of project. It is a hybrid between an urban planning practice, a creative collective and a popular education structure dedicated to the study and intervention at city and territory level through participatory, artistic and cultural initiatives.
Its aim is to study the quality of the environment in its broadest sense: not just its architecture, townscape, ecology or landscape, but its perception as a cultural experience. It also improves singular and particular procedures that have the capacity to bring about change. The result is intended to be the provision of an educational experience that is accessible to all, the offer of an effective mediation service and the encouragement of cultural and artistic innovation.
Topic of the intervention will be: “Creative city and desirable development”
 Can a transitional urbanism be imagined as an alternative to the a well-planned, meant to last urban design?

Art and literature can be seen as extensions of the human mind. Very often they can reveal what lies within, sometimes visibly, and, sometimes, not quite so visibly. The movie club is (we hope) a fun way of looking deeper into the emotions, perceptions and thoughts that weave human relationships together or tear them apart. A movie may be treated as a true story or, alternatively, can be used as a tool to try and figure out what went on in the directors head when the movie was made. Either way, it’s a different way of understanding human behavior and relationships. In the end, by looking deeper into another’s story, we hope, perchance, to understand ourselves better.

The story begins when Sudheer comes to ‘see’ Aarti for marriage and goes on to evaluate, through these two characters, the existentialist tussle between what one has to be vs what one wants to be, how one chooses to live vs how one wishes to live. Aarti has this unusual idea of role playing each other in order to momentarily be what they each wish to be. It turns out to be more than just ‘Chuhal’ (meaning playful tease) and starts getting serious. But, does it help them answer their questions? Does it raise more questions? Watch this play to see where it goes.

Amid domestic chores, dodgy phone calls, a sex-mad brother-in-law and a forever screaming baby she tells us the story of how her love for a young student led to her imprisonment at the hands of her jealous husband. Through farce to tragedy, her story propels the audience to its shocking climax.

2 Pichle Ikkis Saal ( Synopsis ) - “Insecurity, complex, pollution, money, cell phones, drugs, orkut, facebook, relationships, manners, ethics, love, parents, pressure, sex, freedom, capitalism, education , dependence, awareness, guilt, communication, happiness, confusion...Why do I do the things, which I do? I think rubbish. I feel rubbish... Who am I?

Synopsis 1
A documentary by first-time filmmaker Jessica Yu, which tackles the macro issue of a possible
impending water crisis in a macro way. Last Call at the Oasis offers not only solutions that are
being examined and soon to be implemented ways to steer us away from economical
uncertainty if we begin to lose our dependence on water, but also explores a number of different
issues and smaller little conflicts that makeup and define the grandiose term " water crisis." We
open with a quote frighteningly stating that we could soon be fighting wars over water instead of
oil. People have taken for granted the seemingly unlimited supply of water we've been blessed
to have, but with a simple turn of the tap or even a trip to a nearby shop, we have access to as
much water as we can get our hands-on. One man states how our water supply is " infinite and
exhaustible," and how water is constantly reused, but we are beginning to dispose of it at a rate
so fast and uncontrollable that we are approaching a darker future, where water will be harder to
access and even more difficult to store.
Contamination and the popularity of bottled water are tackled here as well. As we see the
poignant images of women around the world lugging barrels of water at their sides or on their
heads, returning to a place where not a drop is in sight, while we make a trip to the store to
purchase bottled water and return home to a place where a simple turn of a tap can give us
more of the same thing, we question the logic of the situation and the complete and total
arrogance of it all. We've been told time and time again that bottled water is allegedly better for
us and are under the impression that it is more closely monitored than traditional tap water. Yet
a close look proves us naive, as even in the US, there have been hundreds of recalls of bottled
water because of contamination, glass particles in the water, and even mould.

National Language of India: a myth or reality a talk by Shyam Rudra Pathak

"Compulsory status of English is causing large scale ruination of our talents from the group of non-English knowing people. There is a high correlation between the English knowing people and the affluent sections of the society. The compulsory status of English in all India competitive examinations produces a merit list which is in favour of the English knowing society of the country. This leads to the exclusion of the talents who are not in a position to receive education in the English medium. Government schools by and large teach the vast number of students in the media of Indian languages, whereas the competitive examinations held on the all India level are mostly held in the English medium and they contain compulsory English language paper as well. This situation not only deprives the students of the lower and middle stratum of the society of getting the developmental opportunities, but it also deprives the country of using its vast pool of the natural resource of the talents of its majority of the people. This is one of the root causes of the backwardness of this country. One additional dimension to the discrimination on the linguistic basis is among the Hindi belt and nonhindi belt people because there are many developmental opportunities being made available in the Hindi medium but not in the nonHindi Indian languages' media. Indians are the rarest of the unfortunate people in this world where people cannot seek justice in their own languages in the high courts and the Supreme court according to the constitutional provision laid down in article 348 of the Indian constitution. However, the central government goes beyond the constitution of India in discriminating between the Hindi belt and nonhindi belt people while making linguistic provisions in the high courts.

A brief about the Speaker:
Shyam Rudra Pathak is India's social-cultural worker. He is the coordinator of 'Campaign and Development Campaign' campaign.

He has written about himself: "If I recollect my childhood days I realize that I took deeper interest in agricultural activities before I started taking interest in studies. I remember I was considered a weak student for many years in my village school. I started taking interest in studies when I was asked to prepare for the admission test of Netarhat Vidyalay at the age of eleven or twelve. I passed that admission test and took admission in that school in class VI from where I appeared in my matriculation board examination. I was provided a silver medal by the Bihar board for securing one of the top ten positions in the 1979 secondary school examination.
In 1980 I took admission in 5 years integrated M S Physics course in IIT Delhi after obtaining an all India rank of 1330 in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for the IITs.
I got the first position in the All India GATE 1985 examination and took admission in M Tech in Energy Studies in IIT Delhi in 1985.
The biggest achievement of my life is the removal of compulsory English Language Paper in JEE from 1988 and the introduction of optional Indian Languages media in JEE from 1990. My efforts for this included several fasts as well, the longest among which was of nineteen and a half days duration undertaken in July/August 1989.

I wrote my MS Physics project report in Hindi in IIT Delhi and it was first rejected on that ground but was later on accepted after the issue was highlighted in newspapers, magazines and finally in the Parliament. The degrees started being given in Hindi and English in IITD from the convocation of 1985 after I refused to accept it in English alone, for which the convocation of the year 1985 had to be postponed in which the then PM Rajeev Gandhi was the chief guest. I wrote my M Tech Project Report also in Hindi, which was also not accepted in the beginning but was later on accepted after the issue was raised by some parliamentarians.

I worked as a research scholar in Energy Studies in IIT Delhi and in Astrophysics in TIFR Mumbai and TIFR Pune. I was expelled twice from TIFR Pune during this programme, although I held the first rank in the all India written examination for the research scholars selection of the TIFR and I had also obtained the first rank in the graduate programme (course woks and project) for the research scholars of TIFR Pune of my batch.

I took part in the anti Mandal agitation in 1990 and was sent to Tihar jail in that connection for about two days.

I remained in the Tihar Jail for the second time from July 17 till July 24, 2013 after refusing to stop my Dharana in spite of being arrested and released every day on 225 days from December 4, 2012 till July 16, 2013 in front of the residence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the National head office of the congress party in Delhi. This Dharana was undertaken with the demand of amending article 348 of the Indian Constitution so that people can seek justice in their languages in the High Courts and the Supreme Court of India.
I was made the sole leader of the CSAT agitation during its later half period by the thousands of agitating UPSC aspirants in 2014 in Delhi. I am still facing a criminal case filed by the Modi govt against me in this connection."

On his 10th death anniversary, we commemorate, remember and learn from someone who was regarded as a force behind the human rights movement in the country.
