About the Book:
In 2010, the journalist Rana Ayyub spent eight months undercover in Gujarat. Ayyub, who was then working for Tehelka magazine, posed as a filmmaker. She met bureaucrats and senior police officials in Gujarat who held pivotal positions in the state between 2001 and 2010. The transcripts of the sting operation, unpublished so far, form the core of her book Gujarat Files: Anatomy of a Cover Up. The self-published book narrates what the officials revealed about the complicity of the state machinery in the anti-Muslim violence in 2002, as well as in “encounters” such as the one that resulted in the killing of Ishrat Jehan, and the murder of the state home minister Haren Pandya, events that accompanied the consolidation of power in Gujarat by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

This workshop will discuss implications of end of the fossil fuel era and what we in Hyderabad can do about it. The future scenario that we will consider has a window of 10 -30 years. During this period the crisis will come to play and we have to put the alternatives in place. The alternatives essentially consist of, first scaling down the amount of energy used to say 1921 level and – solar
and animal power. Alternatives of wind, tidal, micro hydel and geo thermal are not relevant for Hyderabad. In solar again the bulk of it will come from solar photosynthesis, that is, from plants, then from solar thermal. Solar PV photovoltaic, is only for electricity and will play a minor role in the total energy scenario of the future.
Before they left India, little is known about the culture, which generated the Gypsies, except for their migrations, within and out of India. Linguistics and historians believe that the Gypsies were originally from North Central India. Their first known migration started around 300 BC, when they moved to North Western India. Even though the lineage of the Roma people of South Eastern Europe can be traced to the Kalbeliya of India, the tribe in its own country unfortunately is still looked down as ‘untouchables’
Though many attempts have been made to preserve and promote their art form however none so far has really been in the direction of providing sustainable development to the people of the tribe and removing their untouchable status. To add to their misery A Wildlife Protection Act introduced in 1972 has prohibited catching snakes, a common source of income undertaken by Kalbeliya men in the early days. This has left many amongst the tribe to opt for begging or breaking stones for construction purpose as a ways to earn a piece of bread. The problems quantify especially during the non-tourist season in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
This is an ethnographic film based on the livelihood, cultural heritage and struggles of the nomadic Jogi Tribe of Rajasthan. A poetic journey of the rendezvous with the tribe commonly known as the Saperas (Snake Charmers) or Kalbeliyas, in a quest to discover their cultural existence & lifestyle. The film encompasses the vast and beautiful Indian desert into the various ethnic harmonies. This documentary attempts to showcase the problematic isolated lifestyle of this tribe struggling for their existence & social recognition...
Unfortunately, most of the times they get into some puzzled situations which makes their life more interesting and funny. And as we know life is not just with friends, their family members also contribute in making their life more crazy and to get them on the right track, regarding their career. A laughter ride for the audience specially to those who have some crazy best friends.
