What's up With Hyd Women? is a quirky and fun take on a guy's search for love in a confused, urban and hybridized Hyd. It brings various female stereotypes that exist in Hyd to the forefront. This play has characters who resemble people we all know - pretentious Jubilee Hills Janaki Road, the innocent but cunning Mahalaxmi from Malleswaram, the neurotic bhavana from Banjara Hills, the crazy secunderabad sanaa and the manipulative Panjugutta Paya;. The play exposes each one of their true colors in a comical fashion. This play is not for the faint-hearted!!

An Evening Dance & Dialogue
A Unique Kuchipudi Dance Performance
By Haleem Khan & Madhu Swaminath

This program is designed to propagate and educate the audience on Indian Classical dances. It is observed that most of the younger generation do not completely understand Classical dance, and seem to have a notion that is boring and hence cannot connect with fine art.
We will position our performance, so the audience will grasp what we are doing and how we do it! We will endeavor to clear the communication gap – that exists between a Classical dancer and the Rasikas.
It would not be just a dance program, but an evening of comprehending the grammar of the dancer and dance. Trust this first ever idea would be great experience, and the audience better appreciates the values of Indian heritage and culture.
Haleem Khan will be joined by Madhu Swaminadh on the stage, to entertain and interact.

Change Maker-Social Entrepreneur
Sat Jun 21, 3:00 PM
Kamal Pabba
A life not lived for others is not a life. - Mother Teresa

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. - Mahatma Gandhi

What?
Social Entrepreneurship is a concept that has got special attention across the world as an effective means to address global solutions.
Just as entrepreneurs change the face of business, social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities to improve systems, invent new approaches, and create solutions to change society for the better. While a business entrepreneur might create entirely new industries, a social entrepreneur develops innovative solutions to social problems and then implements them on a large scale.
Rather than leaving societal needs to the government or business sectors, social entrepreneurs find what is not working and solve the problem by changing the system, spreading the solution, and persuading entire societies to move in different directions.

This is what PAL believes in, if you're also thinking in the similar lines then come join for the discussion. PAL invites such change makers to come forward and share their thoughts/experiences with others. So that each such change maker will gain from these discussions.

At the end of session, you will
- Understand Social Entrepreneurship concepts and methods to run it
- Become aware of the possible areas for a social entrepreneur
- Build social network
- and you can start doing great things as a change maker for a better society.

Who can attend:

Anyone who
- is keen to start social entrepreneurship or
- is already running but wants to learn from other like/right minded
- liked the concept and wants to attend

Persian Miniature Paintings Expo
Wed Jun 25, 10:30 AM
shima
Inviting you to the Persian Miniature Painting Exhibition by Shima Talebi from 25th - 29th Jun from 10:30am - 5pm.

The bright and pure coloring of the Persian miniature is one of its most Striking features. Normally all the pigments used are Mineral-based ones which keep their bright colors very
well if kept in proper conditions, the main exception being silver, mostly used to depict water, which will oxidize to a rough-edged black over time. The conventions of Persian miniatures changed slowly; faces are normally youthful and seen in three-quarters view, with a plump rounded lower face better suited to portraying typical Central Asian or Chinese features than those of most Persians. Lighting is even, without shadows or chiaroscuro.

The talented painter Shima holds this solo exhibition at Lamakaan. She is painting professionally since she 17 years age and her style is the combination of traditional
Miniature and carpet patterns.

FailFest
Thu Jun 26, 7:30 PM
Nabeel Adeni
FailFest is a fun, engaging & learning forum that aims to change the conversations around Failure.

Failure is considered undesirable, unacceptable. an outright defeat and a complete disaster. However, Failure by all means, is truly ‘inevitable’. It is a quintessential part of life and we get to see it time and again. Like the classic dichotomies of life: Day-Night, Good-Bad, Black-White, Failure forms a pair with Success. However, one can’t succeed every single time. We are bound to screw up on some occasions. But at the end it’s these failures that help us learn. These mistakes enable us to think, be creative and do the innovative.
FailFest is a manifestation of this whole idea around changing the conversations around Failure. The first FailFest was held on May 3, 2013 at Lamakaan. We invited people from all walks of life, from book authors and actors to techies and entrepreneurs. Anybody, who wanted to share their major learnings with a compelling storyline was welcome. The speakers spoke about their challenging journeys where they faced failure, in some form or the other at every step and shared their biggest learnings from those thrilling experiences.

While they are just about to reap the fruits of their endurance and perseverance, the Private group Ramky is all set to take over their business with the support of the State. In an hour long monologue, Rajkumar tells us about his unremarkable life in his nondescript village and the five grains of sugar – the five people – who have stood out in this drab life for reasons stranger than fiction. The filmy mother; her poet brother Pundaleek; Raghu, the school hero; old man Radhey; and the anonymous ‘Truckwala dost’ . Beating Procrastination
Sat Jul 5, 3:00 PM
Kamal Pabba
You are designed mentally and emotionally in such a way that task completion gives you a positive feeling.
It makes you happy. It makes you feel like a winner. - Brian Tracy (Eat That Frog)

What is Procrastination:
It is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later time, sometimes to the "last minute" before the deadline.

Whether you are a Businessman, Employee, Consultant, Professor, Student... we all procrastinate at one point or another. Finally it may result in stress, a sense of guilt and crisis, and severe loss of personal productivity, as well as social disapproval for not meeting responsibilities or commitments.

So, let us join and share some of our innovative thoughts on how to beat procrastination. We can also plan some group/individual activities during the discussions. Looking forward to a wonderful discussions over chai-samosas at Lamakaan..

Who can attend:
Anyone who's interested to understand the tips to overcome Procrastination and willing to manage their time well.

Handloom Bazaar - Freedom Fabric
Sun Jul 13, 10:30 AM
Saraswati kavula
Lamakaan hosts a Handloom Bazaar for Sale and exhibit the Fabric of Freedom. Woven in to the wonderful tapestry that is India, handloom weaving is a 4000 year old tradition. Handloom weaving is one of India’s predominant rural economic activities. This unique tradition has surpassed ages solely because of the magnificence of its craft, the mastery of its makers and patronizing consumers. Handlooms had a glorious past and o a penurious present. The handloom weavers used to live in a life of comfort and complacence in the past. They were respected for their invaluable craft that symbolized the essence of our rich culture and tradition. However, as time wheeled by machines began to exude dominance over human labour. In the state of Andhra Pradesh alone, there are about 320,000 handlooms on which about 500,000 families directly and 20,00,000 families indirectly depend for livelihoods. The recent years have witnessed migrations to cities in large numbers by handloom cotton weavers, taking up of alternative employment in rural industrial units and in extreme cases even starvation deaths or suicide deaths. The monthly handloom bazaar is one of the initiatives we are undertaking to bring back the wonder of handloom into mainstream popular culture, thus increasing the market for these products. In addition the exhibition cum sale hopes to educate the people at large on the issues of handloom weavers, and also on how to recognize the "real handloom" from fakes and "powerloom products". The bazaar will also include talks from time to time, display of weaving skills, and also will encourage children to learn these skills in an interactive way - like learning to use the "charkha".

Whats Up With Hyderabad Women??
Thu Jun 19, 8:00 PM
Underdog Entertainment
A heartbroken romantic sets out on a search for love in the city of broken dreams.

Fri Jun 20, 7:00 PM
Haleem Khan

About the Artist-
Haleem Khan is a renowned Kuchipudi dancer with more than 15 years of experience. He has travelled extensively with his innovative choreographies and has given more than 500 performances in India and abroad. His passion for dance has won him laurels.

Shot in various parts of Hyderabad, Bread, Butter and Garbage explores the grinding work and functioning of the door-to-door garbage collection in the city. It gives an insight to how the State, for years, has withdrawn from its responsibilities in providing the garbage collectors the worker identity and entitlements. These groups of people, in the past 15 years, have set up their own enterprise of waste management and are completely depended on it for survival. While they are just about to reap the fruits of their endurance and perseverance, the Private group Ramky is all set to take over their business with the support of the State.

When a Lawyer walks down aisle
Sat Jul 12, 6:30 PM
Amrita Suresh
Welcoming all for a book launch of 'When a Lawyer walks down the aisle...'.
It tells the story of a bunch of lawyers as they navigate through life, love and relationships. Written by Amrita Suresh, a National best selling author of her first book "'When a Lawyer falls in love..." launches her second book in this comedy series.

Synopsis of the book: An unsolved murder. Half a dozen lawyers. And a talking ghost. 'When a Lawyer walks down the aisle' is all about expecting the unexpected. Of course, it's also about a young couple on the brink of a break up and about how a divorce lawyer has a happy marriage. A sequel to the book 'When a Lawyer falls in love, this book is the kind you ought to pick up if you want to lose forever, your fear of ghosts. Written by someone who has yet to watch a horror film in it's entirety, yet has done reams and reams of research on the afterlife, this book will help you view ghosts in a new light. Ghosts are simply beings who hang on long after it's time to go. Much like most politicians today. Funny, pacey, yet it has it's moments, 'When a Lawyer walks down the aisle....' is the kind of book that will make you laugh and cry, both for the same reasons! Entry - free

About Breeding Invasions:

‘Breeding Invasions.... Livestock At stake’ explores the intricate connections between land, people, animals, food and takes an incisive look at the policies that are dismantling these organic linkages, resulting in an artificial separation of livestock and agriculture. The film, through conversations with livestock rearers, farmers and scientists exposes this unfolding tragedy, of dwindling livestock, destroyed livelihoods, acute indebtedness, polluted environments and unsafe food increasingly being produced by energy intensive monoculture industrial farming systems, which threaten sovereignty over our land, food and animals.
