Jyoti Rout is a truly gifted performer. To witness her dance is to see the ancient temple sculptures come to life. She is most appreciated for her abhinaya (expression). She flows between rage, love, fear and amusement with ease, moving you to empathize with each character. Even within each emotion she conveys the subtle nuances, those imperceptible shifts in feeling - with clarity.

Guru Jyoti Rout is a gifted choreographer. She has choreographed over 60 original items in the classical Odissi tradition. She was one of the few dancers who had the opportunity to dance in front of Lord Jagannath in Puri.

She is the recipient of an award from World Arts West for her outstanding choreography of Dasavatara at the prestigious Ethnic Dance Festival at San Francisco in 2006. She went on to receive a grant for choreographing an Odissi item for the 2007 Ethnic Dance Festival. She has been honored with several National and International awards from around the globe including Pride of India National Award, Shrestha Odiani, and Shrishetra Mahari Award from Jagannath Puri in 2008 and Nritya Shri and Nritya Shiromani State Awards.

Guru Jyoti Rout is an inspired teacher and several students have moved across the country to study with her. It is fascinating to watch her transform her students into dancers, each with their own unique charm while having the consciousness, sensibility and body language of this ancient art form. She teaches Odissi as a spiritual practice, emphasizing relaxation, right breathing, mindfulness and focus while engaging in rigorous physical practice.

From the beauty and majesty during the early period of church and classical music to its position as horn-section or solo-instrument in Jazz big bands and brass bands, the trombone has seen many changes in its use. During this listening post we’ll look at some of the pivotal changes and influential musicians that have shaped the course of the trombone over the centuries.

She had sung on AIR and Doordarshan.

On August 25th, 2007 a bomb blast at Gokul chat center killed over 40 people in Hyderabad. Papalal, a Hindu temple painter rescued a four year old distraught Muslim girl. Since then he and his wife have taken care of her as their own daughter. This noble family’s world soon turned upside down. Muslim groups have been pressurizing that the child be handed over to a Muslim orphanage so she can be raised as a practicing Muslim, while the local Hindu groups are strongly opposing the idea of a Hindu family raising a Muslim girl.
The story of Papalal’s family is a disturbing account of the freedom with which religious chauvinism and bigotry operate in a country that has secularism for an ideal. It shows how humanism and tolerance—the very qualities required to overcome communal discord and strife—rather than being nurtured are in danger of being subverted. But through all these accounts of hardship, ultimately this is an inspiring tale of humanity, harmony and hope.

Lamakaan celebrates 'Telugu Language Day' by commemmorating Gidudu Rama Murthy's 150th Birth anniversary. We reminisce the great linguist - who told the world that speaking in Dialects is not a shame and that there is no one standard way of pronouncing a language - by launching a couple of books written in Telugu Dialects - Tondanaadu Kathalu and Irudoddula Kathalu.

The writers and editors of the books Nandhyala Narayana Reddy, Votra Purushottam, Prof.Jayadheer Tirmal Rao, Saamala Ramesh Babu of Nadusthunna charithra, Anil Atluri of kinige.com and other invitees will be in presence.

We will discuss about the importance of diversity in languages in various geographical regions of the world.

About - Miya Biwi`: Adapted from the original Marathi Play ``Shri Tashi Sau`` written by Yogesh Soman into Hindustani by Saurabh Gharipurikar.
This is a story about a Hyderabadi couple going to court to nullify their nuptials by divorcing each other for the final time.

Stick to your chairs as this play will take you on a laughter ride. During the course of funny incidents, they finally realize that even after so many fights they cannot live without each other.

A talk on Thalassemia by Dr Suman Jain, Chief Executive, Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) and this will include information about the illness, the prevelance, prevention and cure.

Thalassemia is a form of inherited recessive blood disorders caused by the weakening and destruction of red blood cells. Thalassemia is caused by variant or missing genes that affect how the body makes hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. People with thalassemia make less hemoglobin and fewer circulating red blood cells than normal, which results in mild or severe anemia.

The Last Bridge Live is a live music show by the popular band "The Last Bridge" based in Hyderabad.
The Last Bridge has performed across various Indian cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore..etc at various events, shows and gatherings. An Urdu translation & adaptation of Hugh Chesterman's, 'The Pie & The Tart'. The play traces the bylanes of Hyderabad as traversed by 2 beggars, Salim & Javed who write their own scripts of beggary and trickery to feed their appetites on a daily basis. On a particularly hungry day they come across the indefatigable Ismile bhai, who whips up delicacies which are almost as spicy as the language he speaks and his formidable wife, Pasha Bi. Salim-Javed decide to redirect the Biryani that Ismile bhai has cooked for the local nawab, so they can gobble it up instead. Watch Biryani aur Haleem to see if their 'pilaan' works.

An award-winning film exploring the socio-economic forces at work in the housing industry in Malaysia, & the likelihood of a Malaysian Homeless Generation.

The film raises the question of how a new ‘Malaysian Homeless Generation’ has emerged on the scenes. For youngsters, owning a home has become a distant dream. The filmmaker takes us on a journey to discover how this situation came about, what kind of forces are at play and most importantly how can the ordinary person have the power to resist market forces in a capitalist system such as Malaysia’s.

Intelligently titled, this film, after the M-C-M' cycle and social capital by Marxism, -(M-C-M' cycle is the transformation of money (M) into commodities (C), and the change of commodities back again into money (M') of altered value) - this film made by young film maker from Malaysia Boon Kia Meng, The filmmaker takes us on a journey to discover how the present situation of escalating house prices came about, what kind of forces are at work, interviewing the key players in the system, such as developers, the banks, the state and young house buyers, which some concerned parties have called the Homeless Generation.

Boon Kia Meng is an activist-filmmaker. His film ‘M-C-M’: Utopia Milik Siapa?’, a winner at the Malaysian Freedom Film Festival 2012, documenting the issue of escalating house prices and debt in Malaysia. This film featured in the recently completed Livelihood film festival in Delhi.

Screening is followed by panel discussion on the present debt crisis in general and housing crisis in particular in our country too.

Pitch Identification:
With the aid of visualizations and audible ques, student will gain skills such as pitch matching, finding the “key”, and understanding the relationship between pitches.
Harmonic analysis:
Melodies and chord progressions will be demystified through the study of tonal harmony.
Sight Singing:
We will discuss the ways in which pitches usually behave, and explore melodic sequencing and basic conducting. This will help students to read and sing music at first sight!
Dictation:
Students will learn to notate melodies and harmonies upon hearing. This skill will empower students to be able to quickly grasp music that they encounter, as well be able to write or play their own musical ideas.

Nathan’s compositions have ranged from the traditional to the avant garde; including duets for clarinet and piano, guitar ensembles, as well as full jazz band arrangements and mixtures of different artistic mediums. Predominantly Nathan is a singer and guitarist, though he also plays bass, clarinet, and tuba. He believes that music is for everyone, and it should not be limited to the stage. Music can bring great joy to your life and the lives of those around you!

This week we will be looking at some one who has a rare distinction of acting in the first ever talkie films of Hindi (Alam Ara), Telugu (Bhakta Prahlada) and Tamil (Kalidas). He went on to achieve many more and today we call him the founding father of South Indian Film Industry - L.V.Prasad.

Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao known popularly as L. V. Prasad was an Indian film producer, actor, director, cinematographer and businessman. He was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema and is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest Award for films in India.

We present a tribute to this doyen of our cinema on its centenary celebrations.

This is our first venture to reach out to the masses, youth in particular. In today’s world where everything has become materialistic, the youth, is losing its focus and drifting towards the less important in life. Consequently, the human in us is being replaced by machine, and life becomes a mere existence. This machine- like existence acts as an octopus, that is spreading its tentacles everywhere, creeping up the humanity; the reason why we lose our existence, identity and emotions. Indrajeet seeks the answers to these fundamental questions: “Who am I?”, “What am I?” and “Why am I?” The protagonist wants to break the walls of fundamentalism, and tries to establish an idealistic society, that can liberate us from the shackles of age-long customs and laws.

Written in the early seventies, 'Evam Indrajeet' is regarded as the first Indian absurd drama, which follows the principles of existentialism, a trend set by the ideas of western philosophers and authors like Albert Camus, Samuel Beckett, and Jean Paul Sartre. The meaninglessness of life somehow reflects in the total production and questions our whole existence of life. The one and a half hour long production is an adaptation of the original play, to suit the contemporary global times, without distorting the central idea of the author. The treatment of the production is humerous, satirical, caricaturist and at the same time absurd.

Arun Ganesh, a sustainable technology hacker Talks "How using open source took me to the world" among other things like crowd sourcing, creative commons, maps etc. Arun has previously worked as a UI designer with the Wikimedia Foundation.

Not given any fairy tale books in his childhood by his parents, Arun spent his formative years flipping through his sister’s geography atlas, tracing shapes of countries, memorising place names and understanding the relationships between mountains, rivers and cities. Not surprisingly, he developed a deep interest in cartography and visual information design at an early age, creating large scale plans of fantasy cities on the backside of drafting sheets from his dad’s office. The four years spent pursuing Electronics & Communication Engineering from Anna University gave him ample time to develop his cartographic skills further, by contributing heavily to Wikipedia and the OpenStreetMap projects. After an accidental entry into the post graduate Information & Interface Design program at the National Institute of Design, he is now on a mission to share his love for geography and the environment to others using maps as a communication medium.

Bommireddy Nagi Reddy was a Telugu movie producer. He set up Vijaya Vauhini Studios in Chennai, which was then Asia's biggest film studio. As his elder brother (who was also a director) had the same initials and was known as B. N. Reddy, Nagi Reddy was popularly known as B. Nagi Reddy. Some of the movies produced by Nagi Reddy include Patala Bhairavi (1951), Missamma (1955), Maya Bazaar (1957), Gundamma Katha (1962), Maduve Madinodu (1965-Kannada), Ram Aur Shyam, Shriman Shrimati, Julie (1975), and Swarg Narak (1978), the latter two of which were in Hindi.

He is the first recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke award in South India.

We present a tribute to this doyen of our cinema on its centenary celebrations.

Restorative Circles Facilitation Training Workshop.
RC is a community process which supports restoring of connection and coming to consensus at the times of disagreements and conflicts, with the support of facilitators. Created by Dominic Barter and his colleagues, out of their work in the slums of Rio de Janiero, Brazil, 'Restorative Circle' allows conflicts to surface in a safe container. During the process all the parties come to dialogue as equals. Participants invite each other and attend voluntarily. The process ends when actions have been found that bring mutual benefit.

It could be used at any community based groups and workplaces, including Government or Non Government Organisations, Corporates, Educational Institutions, Civil Rights groups or political organisations, Intentional Communities like Housing Societies or Eco Villages, and even in families.

In a Restorative System, unlike a retributive one, by going into the context of the conflict we try to restore connection and trust in the community. If the social fabric is torn, we sit together to gradually re-weave it, to re-join the threads between the members of the community.

Shammi Nanda has had the opportunity to learn about Restorative Circles with by L’aura and Jason of Auroville who have attended trainings on Restorative Circle with Dominic and have introduced it in their own community. Auroville community is experimenting with different ways of conflict transformation. He is also working on Nonviolent Communication for the last four years.
Shammi has been involved in filmmaking and has studied it at the Film Institute in Pune. While he was studying there he was also the president of the student body of the Film Institute. During that time they organized many strikes. He now thinks that while they had noble intentions, the processes of meetings were more disconnecting and is now wanting to create spaces where there is genuine listening and trust in communities when they situation is charged up.

He is closely connected to various sustainability movements and ecological communities all over India. He is also part of the learning societies network, which has been organizing ‘Learning Societies Unconference’ and connected to many home shcooling and unschooling families across the country. He believes in moving over from ‘power over’ to ‘power with’ways of relating in our communities and organizations and believes that it is not just possible but a more efficient way to relate with each other. Lamakaan and Aradhana Karhade presents an evening of Hisnduatani vocal by Omkar dadarkar.

Omkar was enthused to take up music by his parents, both being Marathi Natya-Sangeet performers. He trained under his aunt legendary Manik Verma, Pt.Yashwantbua Joshi of Gwalior Gharana and Pt.Ulhas Kashalkar. Omkar's performancesacross India and abroad were highly applauded. He received the prestigious Vidyasagar Award, Shanmukhananda Hall-Mumbai-Sangeet Shiromani" award, Chaturanga Sangeet Shishyavrutti Award", Sangeet Natak Academy Awarf and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. Lamakaan and NAPM hosts a talk on "River Basin rights and water conflicts in the context of division of AP" by Kishan Rao Parcha.

As the process of the division of Andhra Pradesh state gains momentum the tempers and emotions are rising that rapidly on both the sides, Water issues and conflicts are coming to the fore and vociferous demands are made on the Centre to do justice.

This talk would centre around projecting a perspective so that a just and equitable resolution of the present conflict can be arrived at.

The session will be an interactive and open for debate.

Kishan Rao Parcha graduated from Mysore University in Electrical Engineering. After a brief stint as a research fellow at IIT, Kanpur, he returned to his native village and took to agriculture as my profession. Kishan Rao trains trainers in sustainable farming systems and innovative practices in agriculture.

For the Adivasi communities of Khammam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts in AP and Kunta block in Chattisgarh and Motu Block in Orrissa, life has become uncertain, since the government's decision to commence the construction of the Polavaram Dam - the largest dam by far in India surpassing the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the area of submergence (631 sq km), Forest land, number of villages (300) and number of people (conservative estimate 2 lakhs) affected.

For them the lives seem "Damned"...what does it mean to leave a life that they have known for generations and for people who might never have stepped out of their forest life? How do governments view displaced people in this day and date? The argument is always that for the larger good, some have to make sacrifices...but is it all that simple a matter - a matter of compensation? After all this, does this project serve its purpose? For that matter is there a need to relook at large projects like these at a time when we are beginning to realize that 'small is sustainable’?

The film is made by Saraswati Kavula, filmmaker and social activist.

Jyoti Rout is a truly gifted performer. To witness her dance is to see the ancient temple sculptures come to life. She is most appreciated for her abhinaya (expression). She flows between rage, love, fear and amusement with ease, moving you to empathize with each character. Even within each emotion she conveys the subtle nuances, those imperceptible shifts in feeling - with clarity.

Guru Jyoti Rout is a gifted choreographer. She has choreographed over 60 original items in the classical Odissi tradition. She was one of the few dancers who had the opportunity to dance in front of Lord Jagannath in Puri.

She is the recipient of an award from World Arts West for her outstanding choreography of Dasavatara at the prestigious Ethnic Dance Festival at San Francisco in 2006. She went on to receive a grant for choreographing an Odissi item for the 2007 Ethnic Dance Festival. She has been honored with several National and International awards from around the globe including Pride of India National Award, Shrestha Odiani, and Shrishetra Mahari Award from Jagannath Puri in 2008 and Nritya Shri and Nritya Shiromani State Awards.

Guru Jyoti Rout is an inspired teacher and several students have moved across the country to study with her. It is fascinating to watch her transform her students into dancers, each with their own unique charm while having the consciousness, sensibility and body language of this ancient art form. She teaches Odissi as a spiritual practice, emphasizing relaxation, right breathing, mindfulness and focus while engaging in rigorous physical practice.

On August 25th, 2007 a bomb blast at Gokul chat center killed over 40 people in Hyderabad. Papalal, a Hindu temple painter rescued a four year old distraught Muslim girl. Since then he and his wife have taken care of her as their own daughter. This noble family’s world soon turned upside down. Muslim groups have been pressurizing that the child be handed over to a Muslim orphanage so she can be raised as a practicing Muslim, while the local Hindu groups are strongly opposing the idea of a Hindu family raising a Muslim girl.
The story of Papalal’s family is a disturbing account of the freedom with which religious chauvinism and bigotry operate in a country that has secularism for an ideal. It shows how humanism and tolerance—the very qualities required to overcome communal discord and strife—rather than being nurtured are in danger of being subverted. But through all these accounts of hardship, ultimately this is an inspiring tale of humanity, harmony and hope.

Lamakaan celebrates 'Telugu Language Day' by commemmorating Gidudu Rama Murthy's 150th Birth anniversary. We reminisce the great linguist - who told the world that speaking in Dialects is not a shame and that there is no one standard way of pronouncing a language - by launching a couple of books written in Telugu Dialects - Tondanaadu Kathalu and Irudoddula Kathalu.

Thalassemia is a form of inherited recessive blood disorders caused by the weakening and destruction of red blood cells. Thalassemia is caused by variant or missing genes that affect how the body makes hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. People with thalassemia make less hemoglobin and fewer circulating red blood cells than normal, which results in mild or severe anemia.

On a particularly hungry day they come across the indefatigable Ismile bhai, who whips up delicacies which are almost as spicy as the language he speaks and his formidable wife, Pasha Bi. Salim-Javed decide to redirect the Biryani that Ismile bhai has cooked for the local nawab, so they can gobble it up instead. Watch Biryani aur Haleem to see if their 'pilaan' works.

An award-winning film exploring the socio-economic forces at work in the housing industry in Malaysia, & the likelihood of a Malaysian Homeless Generation.

The film raises the question of how a new ‘Malaysian Homeless Generation’ has emerged on the scenes. For youngsters, owning a home has become a distant dream. The filmmaker takes us on a journey to discover how this situation came about, what kind of forces are at play and most importantly how can the ordinary person have the power to resist market forces in a capitalist system such as Malaysia’s.

Intelligently titled, this film, after the M-C-M' cycle and social capital by Marxism, -(M-C-M' cycle is the transformation of money (M) into commodities (C), and the change of commodities back again into money (M') of altered value) - this film made by young film maker from Malaysia Boon Kia Meng, The filmmaker takes us on a journey to discover how the present situation of escalating house prices came about, what kind of forces are at work, interviewing the key players in the system, such as developers, the banks, the state and young house buyers, which some concerned parties have called the Homeless Generation.

Boon Kia Meng is an activist-filmmaker. His film ‘M-C-M’: Utopia Milik Siapa?’, a winner at the Malaysian Freedom Film Festival 2012, documenting the issue of escalating house prices and debt in Malaysia. This film featured in the recently completed Livelihood film festival in Delhi.

Screening is followed by panel discussion on the present debt crisis in general and housing crisis in particular in our country too.

With the aid of visualizations and audible ques, student will gain skills such as pitch matching, finding the “key”, and understanding the relationship between pitches.
Harmonic analysis:
Melodies and chord progressions will be demystified through the study of tonal harmony.
Sight Singing:
We will discuss the ways in which pitches usually behave, and explore melodic sequencing and basic conducting. This will help students to read and sing music at first sight!
Dictation:
Students will learn to notate melodies and harmonies upon hearing. This skill will empower students to be able to quickly grasp music that they encounter, as well be able to write or play their own musical ideas.

Nathan’s compositions have ranged from the traditional to the avant garde; including duets for clarinet and piano, guitar ensembles, as well as full jazz band arrangements and mixtures of different artistic mediums. Predominantly Nathan is a singer and guitarist, though he also plays bass, clarinet, and tuba. He believes that music is for everyone, and it should not be limited to the stage. Music can bring great joy to your life and the lives of those around you!

Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasada Rao known popularly as L. V. Prasad was an Indian film producer, actor, director, cinematographer and businessman. He was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema and is the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest Award for films in India.

We present a tribute to this doyen of our cinema on its centenary celebrations.

In today’s world where everything has become materialistic, the youth, is losing its focus and drifting towards the less important in life. Consequently, the human in us is being replaced by machine, and life becomes a mere existence. This machine- like existence acts as an octopus, that is spreading its tentacles everywhere, creeping up the humanity; the reason why we lose our existence, identity and emotions. Indrajeet seeks the answers to these fundamental questions: “Who am I?”, “What am I?” and “Why am I?” The protagonist wants to break the walls of fundamentalism, and tries to establish an idealistic society, that can liberate us from the shackles of age-long customs and laws.

Written in the early seventies, 'Evam Indrajeet' is regarded as the first Indian absurd drama, which follows the principles of existentialism, a trend set by the ideas of western philosophers and authors like Albert Camus, Samuel Beckett, and Jean Paul Sartre. The meaninglessness of life somehow reflects in the total production and questions our whole existence of life. The one and a half hour long production is an adaptation of the original play, to suit the contemporary global times, without distorting the central idea of the author. The treatment of the production is humerous, satirical, caricaturist and at the same time absurd.

Arun Ganesh, a sustainable technology hacker Talks "How using open source took me to the world" among other things like crowd sourcing, creative commons, maps etc. Arun has previously worked as a UI designer with the Wikimedia Foundation.

Not given any fairy tale books in his childhood by his parents, Arun spent his formative years flipping through his sister’s geography atlas, tracing shapes of countries, memorising place names and understanding the relationships between mountains, rivers and cities. Not surprisingly, he developed a deep interest in cartography and visual information design at an early age, creating large scale plans of fantasy cities on the backside of drafting sheets from his dad’s office. The four years spent pursuing Electronics & Communication Engineering from Anna University gave him ample time to develop his cartographic skills further, by contributing heavily to Wikipedia and the OpenStreetMap projects. After an accidental entry into the post graduate Information & Interface Design program at the National Institute of Design, he is now on a mission to share his love for geography and the environment to others using maps as a communication medium.

In commemoration of the Centenary of Indian Cinema, here is a tribute paid to some great personalities from the Telugu Cinema..spread over 25 weeks. Each tribute includes a documentary on the personality along with a talk where possible. Brought to you by Srishti Films and presented by Saichand Tripuraneni, BNIM and Anil Atluri.

Bommireddy Nagi Reddy was a Telugu movie producer. He set up Vijaya Vauhini Studios in Chennai, which was then Asia's biggest film studio. As his elder brother (who was also a director) had the same initials and was known as B. N. Reddy, Nagi Reddy was popularly known as B. Nagi Reddy. Some of the movies produced by Nagi Reddy include Patala Bhairavi (1951), Missamma (1955), Maya Bazaar (1957), Gundamma Katha (1962), Maduve Madinodu (1965-Kannada), Ram Aur Shyam, Shriman Shrimati, Julie (1975), and Swarg Narak (1978), the latter two of which were in Hindi.

He is the first recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke award in South India.

Restorative Circles Facilitation Training Workshop.
RC is a community process which supports restoring of connection and coming to consensus at the times of disagreements and conflicts, with the support of facilitators. Created by Dominic Barter and his colleagues, out of their work in the slums of Rio de Janiero, Brazil, 'Restorative Circle' allows conflicts to surface in a safe container. During the process all the parties come to dialogue as equals. Participants invite each other and attend voluntarily. The process ends when actions have been found that bring mutual benefit.

It could be used at any community based groups and workplaces, including Government or Non Government Organisations, Corporates, Educational Institutions, Civil Rights groups or political organisations, Intentional Communities like Housing Societies or Eco Villages, and even in families.

In a Restorative System, unlike a retributive one, by going into the context of the conflict we try to restore connection and trust in the community. If the social fabric is torn, we sit together to gradually re-weave it, to re-join the threads between the members of the community.

Shammi Nanda has had the opportunity to learn about Restorative Circles with by L’aura and Jason of Auroville who have attended trainings on Restorative Circle with Dominic and have introduced it in their own community. Auroville community is experimenting with different ways of conflict transformation. He is also working on Nonviolent Communication for the last four years.
Shammi has been involved in filmmaking and has studied it at the Film Institute in Pune. While he was studying there he was also the president of the student body of the Film Institute. During that time they organized many strikes. He now thinks that while they had noble intentions, the processes of meetings were more disconnecting and is now wanting to create spaces where there is genuine listening and trust in communities when they situation is charged up.

He is closely connected to various sustainability movements and ecological communities all over India. He is also part of the learning societies network, which has been organizing ‘Learning Societies Unconference’ and connected to many home shcooling and unschooling families across the country. He believes in moving over from ‘power over’ to ‘power with’ways of relating in our communities and organizations and believes that it is not just possible but a more efficient way to relate with each other. Lamakaan and Aradhana Karhade presents an evening of Hisnduatani vocal by Omkar dadarkar.

Omkar was enthused to take up music by his parents, both being Marathi Natya-Sangeet performers. He trained under his aunt legendary Manik Verma, Pt.Yashwantbua Joshi of Gwalior Gharana and Pt.Ulhas Kashalkar. Omkar's performancesacross India and abroad were highly applauded. He received the prestigious Vidyasagar Award, Shanmukhananda Hall-Mumbai-Sangeet Shiromani" award, Chaturanga Sangeet Shishyavrutti Award", Sangeet Natak Academy Awarf and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. Presently he is a Musician Tutor at I.T.C. Sangeet Research Academy Kolkata. His handsome voice with embellished tans has established him as a brilliant performer.

Lamakaan and NAPM hosts a talk on "River Basin rights and water conflicts in the context of division of AP" by Kishan Rao Parcha.

As the process of the division of Andhra Pradesh state gains momentum the tempers and emotions are rising that rapidly on both the sides, Water issues and conflicts are coming to the fore and vociferous demands are made on the Centre to do justice.

This talk would centre around projecting a perspective so that a just and equitable resolution of the present conflict can be arrived at.

The session will be an interactive and open for debate.

Kishan Rao Parcha graduated from Mysore University in Electrical Engineering. After a brief stint as a research fellow at IIT, Kanpur, he returned to his native village and took to agriculture as my profession. Kishan Rao trains trainers in sustainable farming systems and innovative practices in agriculture.

For the Adivasi communities of Khammam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts in AP and Kunta block in Chattisgarh and Motu Block in Orrissa, life has become uncertain, since the government's decision to commence the construction of the Polavaram Dam - the largest dam by far in India surpassing the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the area of submergence (631 sq km), Forest land, number of villages (300) and number of people (conservative estimate 2 lakhs) affected.

For them the lives seem "Damned"...what does it mean to leave a life that they have known for generations and for people who might never have stepped out of their forest life? How do governments view displaced people in this day and date? The argument is always that for the larger good, some have to make sacrifices...but is it all that simple a matter - a matter of compensation? After all this, does this project serve its purpose? For that matter is there a need to relook at large projects like these at a time when we are beginning to realize that 'small is sustainable’?

The film is made by Saraswati Kavula, filmmaker and social activist.
