Based on work of Bellingcat journalist of Christo Grozev, and Maria Pevchikh, the head investigator for Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, films uncover a plot with both efforts and stupidity of a team of Kremlin and Navalny’s prank calls to his would-be assassins where they reveal how they laced his blue underwear with poison. The director described his work as “the story of one man and his struggle against an authoritarian regime. It has won multiple awards, including at Sundance Film Festival, BAFTA and Oscar for best documentary.

Directed by Daniel Roher in the 2022 Oscar-winning documentary Navalny captures life and future death of the Russian dissent leader. It starts with a question, “"If you are killed if this does happen, what message do you leave behind to the Russian people?".
