On the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, screening of international documentary directed by Oscar nominated Spanish director Carlos Bosch. This fascinating documentary about Alzheimer’s Disease is set apart from similar medical documentaries through the sheer charisma and personality of Pasqual Maragall, the former Mayor of Barcelona and President of Catalunya who was diagnosed with the disease in 2007, and who allowed documentary maker Carles Bosch intimate access to his life. The Maragall story is inter-cut with doctors and experts discussing AD and how it might be combated, and a series of scenes of other AD sufferers around the world – in the US, India and Holland – talking to their doctors. The words ‘bicycle, spoon, apple’ are simply words that the doctors might ask an AD sufferer (the words change from doctor to country) to try and remember, to test their powers of recall.
The film also has a fair bit of representation from India, specifically covering the work of the Memory Clinic, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (in association with Alzheimer's and Related Disorders Society of India, Hyderabad chapter) presents this in the wider global context of medical research and work in AD.
