Bhakti Poets of South India: A Musical Evening by Ragavan Manian
What do a 5th CE Chera prince turned Jain monk from Kochi Kerala, a 15th century gemstone merchant turned mystic from Karnataka and a 19th century firebrand revolutionary from Ettayapuram Tamil Nadu, have in common? What was it that united poets, mystics and thinkers in the Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam languages over the last two millennia? The answer lies in Bhakti, or Love of the Divine. Experience this Unity through songs of devotion composed by these timeless poets, set to music in the Southern Indian Carnatic style and presented by classical Vocalist Ragavan Manian.
Accompanists: O Rajasekar (Violin) & Karra Srinivas (Mridangam).
