"The Dinner" - A play
Sat Nov 8, 8:00 PM
Kaalpanik Theatre
'The Dinner' is based on Sulaiman Kakkodi’s Malayalam play “Tragedy at the dining table”. Here the director freely borrows the plot from Malayalam competition playlet of the late 80’s with a high doze of absurd theatre influence. The plot revolves around the waiting of two chefs and their preparation for the Dinner of His Highness. The Highness is metaphorically the authority wields his power through the symbolic tool of communication.
The commands pronounced through an archaic phone breaks and fragments the monotonous of waiting. And the director breaths in creative moments of imagined realities through the power of improvisations. These suspended studded with aspirations, hopes, and strategies make the plot grow with its philosophical perspectives on life, fall and fortunes of human being. In short the play is truly meaningful in theme, style and approach and audience are open to interpretations.

Spreading the News is a short one-act comic play by Lady Gregory, which she wrote for the opening night of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, 27 Dec. 1904. It was performed as part of a triple bill alongside William Butler Yeats's "On Baile's Strand" and a revival of the Yeats and Gregory collaborative one-act "Cathleen Ni Houlihan" (1902). Audiences may have dozed through Yeats's play, but Spreading the News was very successful and it is still perform at the Abbey Theatre .Lady Gregory remarked after seeing an early performance of the play that "the audience would laugh so much at 'Spreading the News' that they lost about half the dialogue.

UDAAN Performing Arts, presents an English play 'Five Grains Of Sugar'
About the play - Rajkumar has been requested to write a poem for a compilation to be published. If you knew Rajkumar you’d realize the absurdity of the request. In an hour long monologue, Rajkumar tells us about his unremarkable life in his nondescript village and the five grains of sugar – the five people – who have stood out in this drab life for reasons stranger than fiction. The filmy mother; her poet brother Pundaleek; Raghu, the school hero; old man Radhey; and the anonymous ‘Truckwala dost’ . As Rajkumar talks, the five grains become a single life-game that he has been unknowingly playing for years…and Rajkumar realizes that everyone has a story inside them.

Deccan Drama
A hindi play 'Hawalaat' written by Sarweshwar Dayal Saxena Presented by- Deccan Drama.
‘Hawalaat’ revolves around the story of three youth who have no place since nobody was ready to offer them the shelter and they thought it proper to have the same in a police lock-up. For this they approached a police cop as criminals. In the beginning the cop is not ready to believe in them and asks them to establish their credentials by demonstrating their expertise and past accomplishments in the word of crime. To avoid them, the cop agrees to take them to the lock-up (Hawalaat) after tying their eyes. On the way they talk about political, ideological and social aspects of life and try to explain to the policemen how, like them he is also a mere pawn in the larger system, but he is not convinced. Instead of taking them the police station, the cop keeps them moving at one cross satire on the exploitation of the youth by the people sitting at the helm of affairs. The cop symbolizes the politicians of this country who have been be fooling the youth since Independence. In a highly intellectual manner the playwright has tried to expose the exploitation of the most energetic age group of the country.

Play : His Highness's Dinner

Director : B.SREEDHARAN

IMT HYDERABAD
The play to be staged is “Spreading the News “by Lady Gregory. It is a play with good humor and we have already staged this play in college & we got an overwhelming response.

Five Grains Of Sugar - Play
Fri Nov 21, 7:30 PM
Udaan Performing Arts

Hawalaat - Hindi Play
Wed Dec 3, 7:30 PM
