# Lamakaan

> Hyderabad's free, open, inclusive, liberal, cultural space: a not-for-profit venue for talks, plays, music, films, workshops and discussions, with a cafe of Hyderabadi snacks and chai, in an old house among big trees in Banjara Hills.

Lamakaan is at Off Road No. 1, near GVK Mall, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad 500034, Telangana, India (17.421064, 78.447424; map: https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Lamakaan%2C+Banjara+Hills%2C+Hyderabad). It is open 10 am to 10 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and closed on Mondays. Phone +91-9642731329, in working hours. There is no charge to come in.

## Visiting

- Anyone may come in, eat, meet friends, or write, create or just sit and think; the regulars are a friendly lot. The cafe looks out on big old trees.
- Most events are free; some, mostly plays, charge a small ticket (at most ₹100). Events are mostly in the evenings; at other times the place is quieter.
- The cafe serves Hyderabadi snacks and meals cooked in an open kitchen: chai ₹20, samosa ₹20, nimbu pani ₹50, khatti dal ₹70, meals up to ₹250. - Lamakaan does not take money from businesses: no sponsored events, no advertising.
