The erstwhile Hyderabad state went through a period of turmoil between 1947 and 1948 under its last Nizam after he refused to join the Indian Union after independence. With a parallel Communist Party of India -led peasant uprising in Telangana's rural regions, and the Razakar militia wreaking havoc, the state was anything but politically under control.
The annexation is also a painful memory for many Muslims in the Hyderabad state, given that thousands were massacred from the community after the Indian army took over the state. The atrocities are well documented in the Sunderlal Committee (set up by India’s first PM, Jawaharlal Nehru) to look into the atrocities of Muslims) report post Operation Polo.
So what exactly happened? To understand the historical event, Prof Inukonda Thirumali, author of Against Nizam, Against Dora, will discuss with host Yunus Lasania the events that led to Operation Polo. The talk will also throw light on the much less understood Telangana Armed Struggle (1946-51), which today has been largely ignored or forgotten over decades.

The editors of a newly established magazine `ideal illustrated weekly` have advertised for writers to contribute to their columns.
However, It was asked to demonstrate their talent at their office and not to send the writings by post. Then a song writer, serial writer, culinary writer and a film reviewer walk into the office one after the other to showcase their talent. Will they succeed in impressing the editor?
With many laugh out loud moments, unexpected twists, this play is a hilarious take on the obsession with self promotion and the extremes people will go in the pursuit of recognition.
The story this book follows begins on August 15, 1947. As the new nation-states of India and Pakistan prepared to negotiate land and power, the citizens of the princely state of Hyderabad experienced the unraveling of an intense political conflict between the union government of India and the local ruler, the Nizam of Hyderabad. The author explores how the state of Hyderabad was struggling to produce its own tools of cultural renaissance and modernity in the background of the union government's deployment of the central army, the Nizam's idea of "Azad Hyderabad," and the Telangana armed struggle fostered by leftist parties. With evidence from the oral histories of various sections of Muslims and non-Muslims—and a wide variety of written sources and historical documents, this book captures such an intense moment of new politics and cultural discourses.

Film: Janani's Juliet | 2019 | 53min | Tamil with English Subtitles |
Director, Camera, Sound Design and Editing - Pankaj Rishi Kumar
Producer: PSBT
Synopsis: Kausalya lost her husband (Shankar) when her own family attacked them. They had married against their families' wishes. Deeply disturbed by a spate of honor killings in India, Indianostrum, a Pondicherry-based theatre group, sets out to introspect the implications of caste, class, and gender. They adapt Shakespeare's ‘Romeo and Juliet’. What emerges in the process is a critical reflection and commentary on the contemporary Indian society where love struggles to survive.
About the Director: Pankaj Rishi Kumar subtly keeps introducing the layers of complexity into the film by weaving-in the making of the play, “Chandala”. The dialogue between the theatre director and the actors to adapt the play into the Indian context works as a Greek chorus and keeps the viewer engaged. “You are Juliet’s messengers to me,” the director tells the women cast. As they dig deeper into their own psyche, we also question – why it was all about Romeo even in Shakespeare’s time. Why do we not know more about Juliet? … A poetic, political exploration of love (Kavita & Nandan--thehindu.com

"Kaala Dharmam" is a poignant Telugu drama that delves deep into the intricacies of life, loss, and the fragile balance of family bonds. In the heart of adversity, a middle-class family grapples with the suffocating weight of debt. The patriarch, Bhanu, sacrifices tirelessly within the confines of a school to keep their world from crumbling.
But destiny plays a fickle hand. A devastating train accident steals Bhanu away, leaving behind only unanswered questions as the train vanishes into a river's depths. The family's despair turns into a glimmer of hope as they find solace in the compassion of the government, the unwavering support of family and friends, and the memory of the man they lost.
Just as they begin to rebuild their lives upon the foundation of Bhanu's supposed sacrifice, an astonishing twist unravels their newfound stability. Bhanu returns, defying death itself. His son, torn between joy and resentment, grapples with the revelation that their rebuilt life now stands threatened. Can the family find a way to reconcile their past with their present, or will Bhanu's return forever alter the course of their lives?
"Pelli Sandadi" is a laugh-a-minute comedy play that takes the phrase 'wedding bells' to a whole new level of hilarity! Meet Ramakrishna, the master of fibs, who spins a tale about being married to appease his suspicious boss. But when the boss decides he's due for a surprise lunch at the 'happy couple's' place, chaos erupts!
Cue Ramakrishna's trusty sidekick, Ranga, who jumps into action with all the subtlety of a bull in a china shop. And just when you think things can't get crazier, enter Natraj, the over-enthusiastic theater actor, ready to steal the spotlight at any moment!
With Ramakrishna's sisters thrown into the mix, this comedy of errors is a recipe for non-stop laughter. Will Ramakrishna, the accidental bridegroom, pull off the performance of a lifetime? Or will his boss discover the truth and crash this matrimonial masquerade?
