Globally people have serious concerns about effects on health and environment over Genetically Modified Food crops and not many have been approved so far. In India, an attempt to commercialise Bt Brinjal faced with a moratorium in 2009 after public consultation. But now, GM Mustard is coming up for approval in September/October! It is shrouded in secrecy, with the government keeping data away from public domain. Mustard is a very important food crop consumed in many forms - oil, seed, mustard paste, pickles like avakaya, and as a leafy vegetable.

Will you be worried and act on it now? Or will you wait until it is too late? Should we not question the faulty and flawed process of the regulators ? These and many more, are the questions being asked by many people across India right now. Dr. G.V Ramanjaneyulu will make a presentation on GM crops, particularly mustard, and speak about the concerns. This will be followed by an interactive discussion.

Laltu is a Hindi poet and writer. He has published five poetry collections and a short story collection, and a few works for children and translations. He also writes commentaries on contemporary affairs and is associated with grassroots movements. He is a scientist and he teaches at IIIT-H.

Acharya Tartuffe
“Acharya Tartuffe” is a Hindi adaptation of Moliere’s controversial play ‘Le Tartuffe’, meaning the impostor, or the hypocrite. Written in 1664 the play sheds light on hypocrisy prevailing in the society, especially on the matters of religion and morality.

Omkaar, a wealthy businessman, gets influenced by a mysterious godman named Tartuffe and brings him home. Reeling under the spell of Tartuffe, he grows eccentric to an alarming level. His hapless victims are his own son and daughter. The son gets disowned and the daughter is to be married to the godman. The whole household gets caught in this whirlwind generated by the shrewd maneuvering of the holy man. Any reasoning on part of his family members proves futile. The loud mouth servants are the only ones who could voice their opinions on the fanatical events taking place in the house. Emboldened, Tartuffe slyly creeps closer to Kaamini, Omkaar’s wife, to quench his lustful cravings. Gripped with religious fervor, Omkaar has become too ridiculous to sense the impending threats. Eventually his incessant farcical antics lead him to lose his property to Tartuffe. However a timely tell a tale by Tartuffe’s disciple Chunni Lal brings to light the dark and evil past of the godman.

CITIZENFOUR is a real life thriller, unfolding by the minute, giving audiences unprecedented access to filmmaker Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald’s encounters with Edward Snowden in Hong Kong, as he hands over classified documents providing evidence of mass indiscriminate and illegal invasions of privacy by the National Security Agency (NSA).

Poitras had already been working on a film about surveillance for two years when Snowden contacted her, using the name “CITIZENFOUR,” in January 2013. He reached out to her because he knew she had long been a target of government surveillance, stopped at airports numerous times, and had refused to be intimidated. When Snowden revealed he was a high-level analyst driven to expose the massive surveillance of Americans by the NSA, Poitras persuaded him to let her film.

ABHAAS YA BHAAS is a play that depicts the problems and wishes of street boys who are deprived of daily life minimum needs. The play tells us the story of two boys who are spared and given a chance by Yamdoot by granting them bonus of additional life for six hours and six wishes where each wish will last for just an hour. Things to look out here is, what do the baffled boys wish for and what happens at the end of the sixth hour. The play is a satirical take on the destitute, politicians and the mango people.

Bio:
Prof. Venkat Dhulipala is Associate Professor of History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he teaches courses on South Asian and Global History. He is also currently a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Center for Policy Research, New Delhi. Creating a New Medina: State Power, Islam and the Quest for Pakistan in Late Colonial North India (Cambridge University Press, 2015) was cited by Newsweek as the Best Book in Global Non-Fiction in 2015 and described as "a masterpiece, arguably the most important work of History published in 2015". "Asuddha Bharath" is a translated version of UNSEEN-the truth about India's Manual scavengers written by Ms. Basha Singh and translated by K.Sajaya and published by Hyderabad Book Trust in 2016. Basha Singh is a journalist, activist and writer. Born in New Delhi, she grew up in Lucknow and received her MA and LLB degrees from Lucknow University. Journalis brought her to Delhi once again in 1996, after whchi she has worked with Amar Ujala Karobar, Amar Ujala, Navbharath times, Outlook weekly, Nai Duniya and then back with Outlook. She has written extensively on the issues of manual scaveninging and farmer suicides in north India. she received the Prabhadutt fellowship i 2005 for working on the issue of manual scavenging. She received the Ramnath Goenka Award for best Hindi journalist in 2007 for her story on manual scavenging women, especially the' baltiwalis' of Kanpur and the 'dabbu walis' of West Bengal. In 2008 she received a fellowship from Panos for her study on the health of female manual scavengers. The National Foundation of India (NFI) gave her a fellowship in 2006-07 for her study on farmer suicides in north India. She also writes stories and poems in Hindi, a few of which have been published.

About the Book: In many parts of the country, the inhuman practice of manual scavenging continues to thrive in spite of a law banning it. Moreover, the people forced to carry out this degrading work remain invisible to the rest of us, pushed to the margins of society without any recourse to help or hope. UNSEEN, based on over a decade of research unveils the horrific plight of manual scavengers across 12 states in the country and also recording their ongoing ftruggle for self empowerment.

It is Heartrending....will deeply unsettle those who value equality and respect for human beings. Written with sypathy, insight, humour, and overwhelming humanity.

About the film
In the documentary Living Without Money we meet Heidemarie Schwermer, a former teacher and psychoterapist from Germany, who one day decided to stop using money and live a life based on exchanging favors.

After the Film we'll have a discussion and a short presentation on the possibility of a moneyless economic system.

About The Play - Rajkumar has been requested to write a poem for a compilation to be published. If you knew Rajkumar you’d realize the absurdity of the request.
In an hour long monologue, Rajkumar tells us about his unremarkable life in his nondescript village and the five grains of sugar – the five people – who have stood out in this drab life for reasons stranger than fiction. The filmy mother; her poet brother Pundaleek; Raghu, the school hero; old man Radhey; and the anonymous ‘Truckwala dost’ . As Rajkumar talks, the five grains become a single life-game that he has been unknowingly playing for years…and Rajkumar realizes that everyone has a story inside them.

About The Play - Rajkumar has been requested to write a poem for a compilation to be published. If you knew Rajkumar you’d realize the absurdity of the request. In an hour long monologue, Rajkumar tells us about his unremarkable life in his nondescript village and the five grains of sugar – the five people – who have stood out in this drab life for reasons stranger than fiction. The filmy mother; her poet brother Pundaleek; Raghu, the school hero; old man Radhey; and the anonymous ‘Truckwala dost’ . As Rajkumar talks, the five grains become a single life-game that he has been unknowingly playing for years…and Rajkumar realizes that everyone has a story inside them.

Holmes is the co-founder and co-director of Fight for the Future, an online activism group best known for its role in winning Net Neutrality in the US in 2015 and defeating the American Internet censorship bills SOPA & PIPA in 2012. This will be a casual and open talk on how net neutrality was won in the US, India and Europe, and what these victories mean for the future of activism—on any and every important issue facing the world.

Our goal—always—is to build tech-enhanced campaigns that resonate with millions of people, enabling them to consolidate their power and win historic changes thought to be impossible. What we do, basically:
One of the members of Write Club (anyone with a participation count over 2 consecutive meetups) hosts a session. They bring with them a theme, a writing plan and exercises. We all then write to the host’s prompts and guidelines for about an hour. We read out our write-ups, based on the writer’s discretion and obtain feedback and critique on them.

Acharya Tartuffe

“Acharya Tartuffe” is a Hindi adaptation of Moliere’s controversial play ‘Le Tartuffe’, meaning the impostor, or the hypocrite. Written in 1664 the play sheds light on hypocrisy prevailing in the society, especially on the matters of religion and morality.

Omkaar, a wealthy businessman, gets influenced by a mysterious godman named Tartuffe and brings him home. Reeling under the spell of Tartuffe, he grows eccentric to an alarming level. His hapless victims are his own son and daughter. The son gets disowned and the daughter is to be married to the godman. The whole household gets caught in this whirlwind generated by the shrewd maneuvering of the holy man. Any reasoning on part of his family members proves futile. The loud mouth servants are the only ones who could voice their opinions on the fanatical events taking place in the house. Emboldened, Tartuffe slyly creeps closer to Kaamini, Omkaar’s wife, to quench his lustful cravings. Gripped with religious fervor, Omkaar has become too ridiculous to sense the impending threats. Eventually his incessant farcical antics lead him to lose his property to Tartuffe. However a timely tell a tale by Tartuffe’s disciple Chunni Lal brings to light the dark and evil past of the godman.

Globally people have serious concerns about effects on health and environment over Genetically Modified Food crops and not many have been approved so far. In India, an attempt to commercialise Bt Brinjal faced with a moratorium in 2009 after public consultation. But now, GM Mustard is coming up for approval in September/October! It is shrouded in secrecy, with the government keeping data away from public domain. Mustard is a very important food crop consumed in many forms - oil, seed, mustard paste, pickles like avakaya, and as a leafy vegetable.

Will you be worried and act on it now? Or will you wait until it is too late? Should we not question the faulty and flawed process of the regulators ? These and many more, are the questions being asked by many people across India right now. Dr. G.V Ramanjaneyulu will make a presentation on GM crops, particularly mustard, and speak about the concerns. This will be followed by an interactive discussion.

City based youth formed Amma eye, organ and body donation promotion organization (AEOBDPO) to bring awareness among the public about the importance of donation of eye, organ and body.
“There are 500 deaths approximately everyday in the Hyderabad city alone. Hardly anyone donates eye, organ or body to the eye banks, Jeevandaan, medical colleges due to various superstitious reasons. With a sole purpose to eliminate superstitious beliefs, AEOBDPO is formed on 12th June 2016 (Sunday).

Once in every three months the members meet to discuss about the course of action.

ABHAAS YA BHAAS is a play that depicts the problems and wishes of street boys who are deprived of daily life minimum needs. The play tells us the story of two boys who are spared and given a chance by Yamdoot by granting them bonus of additional life for six hours and six wishes where each wish will last for just an hour. Things to look out here is, what do the baffled boys wish for and what happens at the end of the sixth hour. The play is a satirical take on the destitute, politicians and the mango people.

Bio:
Prof. Venkat Dhulipala is Associate Professor of History at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he teaches courses on South Asian and Global History. He is also currently a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Center for Policy Research, New Delhi. Creating a New Medina: State Power, Islam and the Quest for Pakistan in Late Colonial North India (Cambridge University Press, 2015) was cited by Newsweek as the Best Book in Global Non-Fiction in 2015 and described as "a masterpiece, arguably the most important work of History published in 2015". What we do, basically:
One of the members of Write Club (anyone with a participation count over 2 consecutive meetups) hosts a session. They bring with them a theme, a writing plan and exercises. We all then write to the host’s prompts and guidelines for about an hour. We read out our write-ups, based on the writer’s discretion and obtain feedback and critique on them.

"Asuddha Bharath" is a translated version of UNSEEN-the truth about India's Manual scavengers written by Ms. Basha Singh and translated by K.Sajaya and published by Hyderabad Book Trust in 2016. Basha Singh is a journalist, activist and writer. Born in New Delhi, she grew up in Lucknow and received her MA and LLB degrees from Lucknow University. Journalis brought her to Delhi once again in 1996, after whchi she has worked with Amar Ujala Karobar, Amar Ujala, Navbharath times, Outlook weekly, Nai Duniya and then back with Outlook. She has written extensively on the issues of manual scaveninging and farmer suicides in north India. she received the Prabhadutt fellowship i 2005 for working on the issue of manual scavenging. She received the Ramnath Goenka Award for best Hindi journalist in 2007 for her story on manual scavenging women, especially the' baltiwalis' of Kanpur and the 'dabbu walis' of West Bengal. In 2008 she received a fellowship from Panos for her study on the health of female manual scavengers. The National Foundation of India (NFI) gave her a fellowship in 2006-07 for her study on farmer suicides in north India. She also writes stories and poems in Hindi, a few of which have been published.

About the Book: In many parts of the country, the inhuman practice of manual scavenging continues to thrive in spite of a law banning it. Moreover, the people forced to carry out this degrading work remain invisible to the rest of us, pushed to the margins of society without any recourse to help or hope. UNSEEN, based on over a decade of research unveils the horrific plight of manual scavengers across 12 states in the country and also recording their ongoing ftruggle for self empowerment.

It is Heartrending....will deeply unsettle those who value equality and respect for human beings. Written with sypathy, insight, humour, and overwhelming humanity.

About the film
In the documentary Living Without Money we meet Heidemarie Schwermer, a former teacher and psychoterapist from Germany, who one day decided to stop using money and live a life based on exchanging favors.

After the Film we'll have a discussion and a short presentation on the possibility of a moneyless economic system.

As Rajkumar talks, the five grains become a single life-game that he has been unknowingly playing for years…and Rajkumar realizes that everyone has a story inside them.

Saving the Internet, to save Everything. A talk on net neutrality and activism by Holmes Wilson of Fight for the Future.

Holmes is the co-founder and co-director of Fight for the Future, an online activism group best known for its role in winning Net Neutrality in the US in 2015 and defeating the American Internet censorship bills SOPA & PIPA in 2012. This will be a casual and open talk on how net neutrality was won in the US, India and Europe, and what these victories mean for the future of activism—on any and every important issue facing the world.

If you participated in the fight for net neutrality in India—or any other successful activism campaign—come ready to tell your story.

Our goal—always—is to build tech-enhanced campaigns that resonate with millions of people, enabling them to consolidate their power and win historic changes thought to be impossible. In 2012 we organized the largest online protest in history, an internet-wide strike against web censorship which defeated the SOPA and PIPA bills. More recently, our Battle for the Net campaign drove nearly four million people to contact the FCC resulting in the game-changing passage of net neutrality rules (a “First Amendment” for the Internet).

Acharya Tartuffe

“Acharya Tartuffe” is a Hindi adaptation of Moliere’s controversial play ‘Le Tartuffe’, meaning the impostor, or the hypocrite. Written in 1664 the play sheds light on hypocrisy prevailing in the society, especially on the matters of religion and morality.

Omkaar, a wealthy businessman, gets influenced by a mysterious godman named Tartuffe and brings him home. Reeling under the spell of Tartuffe, he grows eccentric to an alarming level. His hapless victims are his own son and daughter. The son gets disowned and the daughter is to be married to the godman. The whole household gets caught in this whirlwind generated by the shrewd maneuvering of the holy man. Any reasoning on part of his family members proves futile. The loud mouth servants are the only ones who could voice their opinions on the fanatical events taking place in the house. Emboldened, Tartuffe slyly creeps closer to Kaamini, Omkaar’s wife, to quench his lustful cravings. Gripped with religious fervor, Omkaar has become too ridiculous to sense the impending threats. Eventually his incessant farcical antics lead him to lose his property to Tartuffe. However a timely tell a tale by Tartuffe’s disciple Chunni Lal brings to light the dark and evil past of the godman.
