Daddy's lil girl !
Sun Apr 6, 6:00 PM
Octopus Studio
The play “Daddy’s lil girl” is divided in three parts which throw light on the 3 major parts of a woman’s life. The first
part is about how the parents of the girl are in doubt whether to have her or not, putting her very existence into
jeopardy. This part has both the mother and the father present arguments about why they should or shouldn’t
have a baby and another couple enacting the imaginations – both fears & expectations of the parents. How they
come to the decision whether or not they should have a baby is showcased in this part.
The second part shows the girl in her early twenties. She has just got a job and her parents are looking for
matrimonial alliances for her. However, she doesn’t like any of the matches her parents bring forth. After a long
wait, she does finally like one of the matches her parents bring and the wedding is fixed…but only a few days
before the wedding she gets to know something about the guy that will make her rethink her decision to marry
him. What is that thing..? What does she decide? How she copes with her decision? Does her family support her?
All these questions are answered in the second part.
The third part is a monologue that portrays the life of a highly successful woman in her mid-30’s and is a divorcee.
She is tired of the questions she is asked at every turn of life, the justification she has to give for every step she
takes. Annoyed at the change of people’s attitude towards her since the divorce, she expresses her frustration at
the lack of support from her close ones and expresses anguish at the current state of affairs of the chauvinistic
society.

Directed by: Rahul R
Directors Note:
‘Daddy’s lil girl’ is a depiction of the various stages of women life which are influenced or
dictated by the allegedly ‘stronger’ sex or the same .This play is a unheard voice of the
ordinary women who fails to express he distress to her loved one & also talk about how
women can take control completely when required. We focus on her ….her sacrifices, her
fear, her strength, her ego , her happiness , her love , her passion & her every lil thing …!!

Hyderabad Western Music Foundation invites you to

7th HWMF-Community Singing: Prayers of the world
Sharing Music – Creating Harmony

Communities around the world have made used the simple act of singing together to boost their morale, bring each other together, and gain energy.
HWMF is doing a Community singing project with bi-monthly sessions.
The motivation is simply to feel each others' energy and understand what it is like to sing with a room full of people. It is expected that participants have a basic interest in learning songs from all over the world in different languages and historical contexts! For this reason, we have set the minimum age to 12 years.
So if you are fond of singing just for the sheer joy of it, this is the place to be!
If you haven’t attended the last sessions, don’t worry – you can join any session fresh.
If you have – don’t worry either – we don’t repeat repertoire or warm-ups so it is going to be new every time!
Prayers have consistently been sung in a group together, to be heard together, combining faith with ritual. This week, we will be doing prayers from various religions and faiths from the world, like Shinto, Baha’i, Balinese kecak, and so forth!

Some of these are even performance-based forms, and we will explore the musical complexity as well as the subtle differences, and stronger similarities in prayers from various religions! Hope to see you there in faith!

Tejaswinee Kelkar, our course director, is doing her MS at IIIT Hyderabad. She has studied an Associate Diploma in Western Classical theory and composition as well as Sangeet Visharad in Hindustani Classical music and is locally part of the choir group the Deccan Voices.

Modi and Godhra - Book Launch
Sun Apr 13, 7:00 PM
Manoj Mitta
Lamakaan invites you to a Panel Discussion on "The Dirty Business of Clean Chits" with panelists Kingshuk Nag, Prof.Jyotirmaya Sharma, Shafeeq Mahajir, Kalpana Kannabiran, Dilip Sineon marking the publication of the book, "The Fiction of Fact-finding: Modi and Godhra" by Manoj Mitta.

About the book:

'No instance of communal violence has provoked as much controversy as the Gujarat 2002 carnage. And none has been subjected to as much fact-finding, especially under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. Sifting through the wealth of official material, this book contends that the fact-finding - riddled as it was with ambiguities and deceptions, gaps and contradictions - glossed over crucial pieces of evidence and thereby shielded the powers that be'.

Scrupulously researched, The Fiction of Fact-finding exposes a range of unasked questions which helped Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi procure a clean chit. The book is written by Manoj Mitta, a senior journalist who has been tracking legal and human rights issues over 25 years.

Please join the author and the panelists at High tea at 6:30pm

All are welcome. Entry - Free.

THE LAST ADIEU
directed by Shabnam Sukhdev

90 min / 2014 with English sub-titles

The Last Adieu is a personal quest of a filmmaker daughter to unravel the past and make a connection with her filmmaker father, S. Sukhdev, who died suddenly at the age of 46, leaving behind a huge body of work and an unresolved relationship with his daughter.

While he was an accomplished filmmaker in the public eye, his family had another story to tell. With the help of archival audio recordings, old photographs and Sukhdev’s films, Shabnam endeavours to construct a picture of her father as she struggles to love and respect him for who he was.

The film is an important record of a phase in documentary history that inspired and paved the way for the new wave in non-fiction narratives, and pays homage to S. Sukhdev, an important filmmaker who revolutionized Documentary film-making in India in the mid 60’s, right through the 70’s.

Sari Bahas se gujarkar -

Anshan or hunger strike has deep roots in the Indian society and Indian psyche. During Indian independent struggle Gandhi ji engaged in several famous hunger strikes. In addition to Gandhi, various others have used the hunger strike option during the Indian independence movement. Some prominent names are Jatin Das (who fasted to death) and Bhagat Singh.

But if one does hunger strike to usurp the other’s wife? Sounds crazy – isn’t it. Yes, Bannu is keeping fast unto death to get his love interest, married Shavitri. Ironically Shavitri hates Bannu, but Bannu is determined in his mission. In this hunger strike, he gets supports from various Baba , Swami and social & political leaders and his hunger strike becomes national issue. Dominic Wesley: English Play
Sat Apr 26, 7:30 PM
Samahaara
Samahaara
presents

Anjali Parvati Koda's
"Dominic Wesley"
(A Play in English)

Directed by Rathna Shekar Reddy

Wesley met us the other day and was like Yo Man What's been up and Dominic being Dominic goes "Surf, Tide, Heads" LOLMAX. You didn't get that, did you? You are such a Wesley. (If you got it, you are probably Dominic, and that's more bad news now, isn't it, you poor dear, you poor poor dear).

Wesley participated in a karaoke competition recently and lost to a terrific rendition of "I will survive" by Dominic, who unfortunately, we hear, was murdered the very next day. So…*she sells sea shells by the sea shore she sells sea shells….*

Listen, the above spoiler was posted by an intern. Will you come and watch the entire awesomeness though?

The Times of India - The play is well written and directed;with all the actors doing justice to their roles. The repartees between Dominic (the artist) and Wesley (the realist),kept the audience in titters.Filled with self-mocking humor, this play holds the audience attention till the very end...

The Hindu- The script and direction incorporate exceptional symbolism...The play by popular city theatre group, Samahaara was indeed quite fetching.

Dominic Wesley: English Play
Sun Apr 27, 7:30 PM
Samahaara
Samahaara presents
Anjali Parvati Koda's "Dominic Wesley" (A Play in English)
Directed by Rathna Shekar Reddy
Wesley met us the other day and was like Yo Man What's been up and Dominic being Dominic goes "Surf, Tide, Heads" LOLMAX. You didn't get that, did you? You are such a Wesley. (If you got it, you are probably Dominic, and that's more bad news now, isn't it, you poor dear, you poor poor dear).
Wesley participated in a karaoke competition recently and lost to a terrific rendition of "I will survive" by Dominic, who unfortunately, we hear, was murdered the very next day. So…she sells sea shells by the sea shore she sells sea shells….

‘Uski Maa’

Uski Maa is one of the well known stories of Pandey Bechan Sharma ‘Ugra’. This is the story of Lal , his revolutionary friends, his mother and the the chachaji – the narrator of the story. Lal is a student who along with other college friends participating in the armed revolution to free the country from British Empire. Chachaji, the narrator of the story is loyal to Empire but sympathetic to Lal. Chachaji represents the old generation who believes in getting along with the system whereas Lal and his friends represents new generation who want to see total revolution and establishment of new system. The central character of the story is Lal’s mother who loves Lal and his friends alike. Lal and his friends see the mother India in her. This is a very engaging story

Sari Bahas se gujarkar -

The story is based on the rampant corruption and bribery seen in public office. The story revolves around a common man who goes to office to get loan but there he is asked to prove himself that he is alive. How he deals with the harsh treatment of the official and gets loan is worth watching.

Anshan -

This is a social and political satire that makes mockery of hunger strike and the system.

April Fool
Fri Apr 18, 7:30 PM
UDAAN Performing Arts
April Fool ….pranks can be notorious ….but truth can be uglier ….!! How many of us have dealt with imprisonment of all sorts inside our own homes??? Where freedom of speech, freedom of thought & freedom as such is a rare entity …!!! Hasn’t the world seen the most disturbing parental relationships, yet? The impact of a disturbed child hood is grave, not even close to what a non-victim can imagine!!!
The story of 4 roommates (Anil,Ajay,Sirish & rakesh) in a college hostel who plan to play a prank with their friend to pull his leg .These 4 have been together for a while now, they know each other pretty well. 3 of them plan to tell Ajay that his father is here & waiting for him in the room. The 39 Steps!
Sat Apr 19, 7:00 PM
The Lord Chamberlain's Men
The 39 Steps has 4 actors playing 40 roles over one and a half hours! In an absolute masterpiece of visual humor and comic timing, the play sees the entire film 'The 39 Steps' performed nearly verbatim onstage. The film's serious spy story is played mainly for laughs, and the script is full of allusions to other Hitchcock films, including Rear Window and Psycho. This is perhaps the ultimate spoof espionage thriller!
