IGNITING MINDS Guest Lecture by Dr. Rajeev Sangal on 'Policy reforms due in HIGHER EDUCATION in India'

This will one of the first major events of Wikipedia in Hyderabad ever.

The agenda for the event will be the following:
a) Introduction to Wikipedia and Wikimedia
b) Membership in Wikimedia and benefits
c) Activities map and Action Plan introduction for Hyderabad
d) Introduction of projects - GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums), WLM (Wiki Loves Monuments)

This play takes a dig at our existing educational system. It shows how systems and practices of education followed all over the world are more or less the same and focus more on rote learning and preparing the individual for examinations rather than imparting knowledge that can help him/her meet the demands of society and the world around us.
Meet Mr. Aadarsh Vidyarthi, a man who comes back to school to question his teachers and ask for a refund as he feels that the education he was imparted did not do him any good. He demands a re-examination by all his old teachers to prove his ignorance.

Jagriti Sewa Sansthan is organizing a seminar to create awareness about Social Entrepreneurship & also spread the word about the Jagriti Yatra.

Jagriti Yatra is an annual train journey that that takes hundreds of India's highly motivated youth (with some participation of international students) between the ages of 20-25 and experienced professionals with age above 25, on a eighteen day national odyssey, introducing them to unsung heroes of India. The aim is to awaken the spirit of entrepreneurship - both social and economic - within India's youth by exposing them to individuals and institutions that are developing unique solutions to India's challenges. Through this national event we have begun to inspire the youth of India to lead and develop institutions both nationally and within their communities.

The aim of Rang De Hyderabad Chapter is to screen a documentary that deals with social issues that India faces today. These films are made by filmmakers of all nationalities who want to shine a spotlight on social issues ranging from gender injustices, the climate change to the suicide of farmers in rural areas of India. Our will is two-fold: to screen these films for free (the audience is not charged)& then to have a discussion about the topic of the documentary amongst the audience after the screening.

Octopus is looking for fresh and experienced actors and backstage crew for its upcoming production to be staged in Nov & Dec 2012.

Thaali: A Plateful of Plays is the latest offering by Manch Theatre. A collection of humorous short plays. It promises to fill your appetite for theatre and tickle your funny bone. With different shades of humour in each play, Thaali offers you 120 minutes of pure fun.

A short course on the fundamentals of Physics and Astronomy coupled with hands on sessions
in planned on September 2012, which will be preceeded by a trip to the Observatory at Japal-Rangapur.

It is about the botanical drawings made by Indian artists to help Western botanists in their work documenting the Indian flora in the late 18th and early 19th century.

Dr Noltie is a taxonomist, historian & botanist, a Research Associate at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh & a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for World Environmental History. Dr Noltie has curated exhibitions, lectured and written books on his specific interest, the botanical drawings made by Indian artists for the East India Company during the 19th century.

A group of 151 Pakistani Hindus entered India on September, 2011 with a one month tourist visa. They came to take refuge from the various religious persecutions they had to face in Pakistan. The group which has a majority of children and women are now sheltered in a camp on the outskirts of New Delhi. But now their visa has expired and is facing deportation. Various organizations are fighting for the basic human rights of these people at the political and judicial level. Their story is a grim reminder of all those lives caught up in no man’s land. As more boundaries are drawn across the human conscience, we fail to realize that humanity has always suffered because of those human boundaries. This documentary traces the difficulties they had to face in Pakistan, their life inside the camp and their hopes for tomorrow.


Rahul Riji Nair is a Business Analyst. His passion for film making inspired him to do this, his first documentary. He is a regular columnist for many publications and writes on social issues and international affairs.

Festivals etc :
* Won the first runner-up for “Best Documentary” in Cinematheque 2012, a film festival conducted by the prestigious St. Xavier's College in Kolkata.
* Screened at the International Human Rights Conference in New Delhi.




NANOOK OF THE NORTH

The classic documentary follows the lives of an Inuit, Nanook, and his family as they travel, search for food, and trade in northern Quebec, Canada. Nanook, his wife, Nyla, and their baby, Cunayou, are introduced as fearless heroes who endure rigors "no other race" could survive.


Nanook is a 1922 silent documentary film by Robert Flaherty, in the tradition of what would later be called salvage ethnography. As the first nonfiction work of its scale, Nanook of the North was ground-breaking cinema. It captured an exotic culture (that is, indigenous and considered exotic to non-Inuit peoples) in a remote location. Hailed almost unanimously by critics, the film was a box office success in the United States and abroad.

Rahul Riji Nair graduated from Amrita School of Engineering, with a
bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. He is currently employed
in NeST Technologies Ltd as a Business Analyst. His passion for film
making inspired him to do his first ever documentary called "The Human
Boundaries", based on the life of Hindu refugees from Pakistan. He was
one among India’s representatives at the South Asian Youth Conference
and was the cointernational mobilization. He is a regular columnist for
many publications and writes on social issues and international affairs.

Partho Sarothi Ray is an activist and academic based in West Bengal. He is an assistant professor, at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, specializing in the molecular biology of cancer. He has been closely involved in a number of people's movements, such as in Lalgarh and the anti-POSCO movement in Odisha, and more recently in Nonadanga. He is a founder member of the Sanhati collective and the website www.Sanhati.com.

This event is curtain raiser for the upcoming people's bio diversity festival to be held at Nampally exhibition grounds from October 13th to 16th 2012.

On the occasion of the 7th Anniversary of the implementation of the landmark Right to Information Act (RTI),two documentaries that showcase the history of this movement and the essence of the act will be screened. The screening will be followed by a panel of discussion of RTI, how it is changing the governance,problems in implementation etc.

Open Show is a free monthly event that provides photographers, filmmakers and multimedia producers the chance to present their work in an interactive space.

Format: Four curated presenters have 15 minutes each to introduce one project. Both ongoing and completed work is accepted. We welcome diverse topics ranging from documentary to fine art.

We went for a trek on last weekend and we would like to gather at LAMAKAAN on 13 Oct 2012 (Sat) at around 7.00 P.M for about 1-1.5 to share the pics of the trek. Team size is of 15 max. Pleaase let us know if we are allowed to use LAMAKAAN to have this meeting.

In the deep hills of northeast India, Christianity and pop culture has taken over the imagination of the Tangkhul tribes. Rewben Mashangva from Choithar village travels through the remote villages of the Tangkhul Naga to talk to the old people and collect songs and instruments. The rhythms, melodies and lyrics form links to his own music, which he describes as Naga Folk Blues. In his traditional “haokuirat” hairtsyle and western boots along with his 9 year old son Saka, he performs across india and southeast asia spreading the message that some songs have no end. The film was shot for more than one and half years at Rajasthan, Nagaland, Kolkatta, Shillong, Imphal and other villages of Manipur.

Baluch women in south-eastern part of Iran have made beautiful pottery traditionally for more than 5000 years. Baluch men apply mud on their body and bask in the sun for health and beauty. Woven around the poetry of Omar Khayyam, Soil Water Fire tries to create a symbiotic link in colorful hues and visual splendour.

Grim Pumpkin Theater offers as their third production Vijay Tendulkar's well known play, 'Silence! The Court Is In Session'.

We are back with the Monthly Testers Meet with a totally different way in which we are going to learn the craft of testing.
How ?

We are going to have a one day hands on session on Exploratory Testing. So, we are requesting the participants to bring in their own laptop because the full day would be ONLY hands on followed by group discussions. So the learning and take away would be awesome.

When?

We are planning to have this meet in October 2012
Planning to start the session at 10.00 am and till 5.00 pm.



The event is as usual FREE and searching for the venue which have WIFI facility.

I thought communicating to you because I found your office space has the following pre-requisites

Could accommodate 60-70 folks
Thinking that you give us permission to bring in laptop
We expect that you have wifi facility for the participants to connect
