OPENING ACT

The opening acts are a must watch performed by the students from DSM (Davidson school of music).
The opening act includes soothing covers from the likes of ABBA, BoneyM, Carpenters, Beegees, Titanic,
and Eric Clapton while not forgetting the likes of hard and classic rock covering Deep Purple, Led Zep,
Guns N Roses and also some great instrumental music covering Ventures of the 60’s fame.

(Yateesh Acharya is an accomplished Ghazal singer, classically trained, proficient in Thumari, Dadra, Mand, Folk and Sufi styles of singing etc. He has been in the field of singing for the last three decades.

He took early lessons in classical music from Pt. Mahendra Dixit, Shri J. S. Hada. He further sharpened his music skill by learning from Pt. Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Ustad Hifzul Kabir (Katani), Ustad Sarwat Hussain Khan (Bhopal), Great Ustad Rahat Ali Khan (Gorakhpur), Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan (Delhi), Ustad Zamir Ahmed Khan (Muradabad), Ustad Hayat Ahmed Khan (Delhi), Late Ustad Ghulam Abbas Khan (Agra)
In 1983-84 Yateesh won the top prize in the All-India Begum Akhtar singing challenge and Mehdi Hassan Award 2010

And composed Music for various Ghazal Bhajan Albums, Jingles, and Documentary Films also.

In year 2010 he was chosen to represent India in JORDON Festival that was organized by ministry of culture of Jordan government.

Five random travelers come together to trek to a waterfall in Hampi a serene heartland in Southern India , famous for its ruins, temples and a river. They trudge across the surreal landscape, happily disconnected from their routines. To recharge their energy after walking for sometime, they stop under a rock shelter. An innocuous discussion begins to change the trajectory of their thoughts.

Meanwhile, in yet another part of Hampi, an young photographer from Israel is searching for peace through meditation, when most other backpackers seem to choose drugs.

And, a young Palestinian doctor, travels half the globe to a small country in South America, hoping to make others understand the routine challenges of life in her homeland.

Everybody is searching for something. Can they find it?

'The Waterfall' is a journey that brings together some people, as they share their hopes and angst while searching for answers.

An acoustic folk and rock gig with multilingual, multicultural mix of songs that engages the audience to join in - sing along or play small percussion instruments which are passed on. The idea of participation of the audience is important to us, for people must sing ‘songs of people’ together. To achieve this, wherever possible, visual projection is used to assist the audience.

The repertoire is a carefully selected compilation of folk and rock songs from various places. The lyrics reflect the happiness, angst, troubles and issues they face and need to think about and question. It includes English folk, rock and blues (from the likes of Dylan, Bob Marley, Bloodhound Gang etc.), Indian folk (e.g. Himachali, Central Indian, Bengali), Latin musica protesta and some original numbers.

Journey to the Everest Base Camp is all about sharing the Trekking experience of making it to the Everest Base Camp, Himalayas in Nepal.

IGNITING MINDS Guest Talk on Gandhian Economic Thought by Prof. Naresh Kumar Sharma from HCU (Economics Dept.)

Collateral Damage is a Documentary by 4 Hyderabadi makers. It is a moving account of a few 'chosen' men. They were among 70 Muslim men picked up by the Hyderabad police in the wake of two terror attacks in the city last year. At least 15 of them, according to a report by a state government panel, were subjected to various forms of torture during custody that lasted six to nine months: stripping, physical abuse, electric shocks, some had their beards plucked out; in one case, a two-litre water bottle was said to have been hung from the victim’s penis.

Now the Andhra Pradesh government admits they are innocent and, as a ‘healing touch,” is offering them a “rehabilitation package” of Rs 30,000 and Rs-80,000 loans to buy autorickshaws.

Through this panel discussion and interactive session with the audience, we try to take a peek into the current political context which leads to production of shows like "Satyameva Jayate", and the reactions to it. Thus we use this show as a lens to zoom into the contemporary socio-cultural and political economic paradigms we are living in. Our 3 panelists will open up various points of discussion about the show and its context, and we hope that the discussion will be taken forward through interaction with the audience.

Siyaah Haashiye are vignettes of the partition of India; black borders written with the same dark blood that oozed from both sides on a land that was ripped to pieces and has never quite managed to pull itself together yet. A devastating and heartrending take on grizzly bear activists Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard, who were killed in October of 2003 while living among grizzlies in Alaska.
For thirteen consecutive summers, the American Timothy Treadwell moved to Katmai in the Alaskan Peninsula to live among the grizzly bears, with the pretext of studying and protecting them. In 2003, his girlfriend Amie Huguenard and he were surprisingly attacked and eaten by a bear.

Werner Herzog somehow accessed more than one hundred hours of footages filmed by Timothy and released this documentary, showing the life and death of Timothy Treadwell



Werner Herzog is undeniably one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, and one of the great figures of German Cinema. Many people find Herzog’s documentaries even more fascinating than his feature films.

No one has done more than Herzog to promulgate the deeper truth that every fiction film has an element of documentary, and that all documentaries are constructed fictions. Herzog’s docs show an appreciation for imagination, poetry, adventure, and most of all -- how documentaries at their best can be an expression of one artist’s vision of the world.

Radiation Stories: Koodankulam

The people's movement against the Koodankulam nuclear plant is an over 20-year-old story. When the mainstream media muffles the voices from the ongoing people's struggle in Koodankulam, Amudhan R P breaks the silence and takes us to the villages at the centre of the resistance. Completed just before Section 144 was enforced in the area, the film presents rare footage from the protests.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Amudhan, the director and producer of the film.

A bit about Amudhan:

Born in 1971, Amudhan completed MA in Development Communication from Madurai Kamaraj University. He has been involved in various documentary-related activities such as making films, writing about documentary films and filmmakers in Tamil, and organising film screenings, video workshops and film festivals in Tamil Nadu.

Amudhan founded Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival in 1998 and has been co-ordinating the festival since then every year.

'Radiation Stories' is a series of films that Amudhan has been making since 2007 on nuclear issues. The first part is about monazite mining by Department of Atomic Energy in Manavalakurichi, Tamil Nadu and the second part is about various case studies of health hazards in and around Kalpakkam due to the nuclear power complex.

Open Show is a free monthly event that provides photographers, filmmakers and multimedia producers the chance to present their work in an interactive space.

And, of course, our "asabhya betiyan", (immoral daughters) who imagine equality like animals and want our age-old customs to die out..."

Voices like Jai Singh Ahlwats's belong to the patriarchal and casteist pillars of a feudal society -- the Khaps; those who oppose "self-choice" marriages and deny young people the right to love.

In Izzatnagari ki Asabhya Betiyaan, we have the stories of five young Jat women who dared to resist. These women take on take on the powerful Khaps and in the process confront "honour" crimes, injustice and social boycotts.

These multi-narratives of women are intercut with that of the Khaps. Through these stories, Asabhaya Betiyaan exposes the fissures, hypocrisy and violence in a supposedly modern and
democratic India.

Grim Pumpkin Theatre presents 'A Night of the Absurd', a staging of four plays by Alex Broun, an American playwright.
Synopsis:

Alex Broun is one well known name in the circuit of ten minute plays. He has written over seventy ten minute plays till date and aims at completing a hundred. He has his own website at http://www.alexbroun.com.au/. All his scripts are available on this website and are available for performance and screening purposes.
We have picked up four of those ten minute plays, namely, “George Clooney and Brad Pitt get laid”, “Five Houses for Harriette”, “10,000 Cigarettes”, and “50 Guns” and will be performing in that order. There is nothing that connects these four plays, except for the fact that these are all stories of people and their lives. Rather people and their short lives. Short not in duration, but perhaps in their meaning, in validity, in their being. The first play is a hilarious conversation between the two hollywood actors, George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The second play is about a woman’s search for her perfect house. The third play, is about four voices in the head, in a conversation with each other about the fantasies related to cigarettes and what can be the final destination of such a fantastic tour. The fourth play is about a woman who suffers from the guilt of killing her sibling.
The four plays develop one after the other, but also simultaneously. Each play is enhanced by the next play. Characters from each of these plays can easily interchange between themselves. Each play hence can be the story of all the characters in all the plays. Each play can be the story of any one of us.
