Legal Clinic
Sat Dec 6, 11:00 AM
Yash Dalmia
We’re setting up a simple, friendly Community Legal Help Desk at Lamakaan — nothing formal, nothing heavy, just an open space where you can walk in, ask the questions you’ve always had, and finally get some clarity without feeling overwhelmed.
All of us run into small but annoying legal doubts at some point — a disagreement with a landlord or colleague, confusion about a document, not knowing how to draft an agreement, or that sudden shock when the bank freezes your account because of some cyber alert. Most people don’t know who to ask, and that’s exactly why we’re doing this.
This session isn’t a consultation.
It’s just a relaxed, helpful conversation where we explain how things usually work:
• How many everyday disputes can be solved without stepping into court
• What mediation and online dispute resolution actually look like
• What to check before signing any document
• How to frame a clear and fair contract
• Why bank accounts get frozen and what steps generally help in getting them restored
If you’re curious, confused, or just want to understand things better, drop by.
Stay for five minutes or twenty — totally up to you. Ask a question, listen in, or simply get a feel for how these processes work. You don’t need to bring anything or prepare anything.
There are no fees, no sign-ups, and absolutely no pressure.
Just a friendly setup at Lamakaan, where you might walk in with doubt but walk out feeling lighter and clearer.
If you’ve been carrying even one small worry or question in your mind, this is a good chance to stop by and finally make sense of it.
We’ll be happy to have you there. Come say hi.

presents

Ranjit Kapoor's
CHAINPUR KI DAASTAAN
(An adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's Inspector General in Hindi)

Chainpur ki Daastaan is a satirical comedy set in the quirky princely state of Chainpur—an imaginary land where corruption, chaos, and convenience live happily together.

Peaceful, corrupt routine of the village people is shattered when news arrives that a secret government officer from Delhi has come to investigate their misdeeds. Panic spreads, plans are hatched, and misunderstandings explode. What follows is a hilarious series of blunders, confusion, disguises, and desperate attempts by Chainpur’s officials to impress, mislead, and survive the so-called “khufiya afsar”.

Filled with humour, exaggerated characters, sharp social commentary, and lively drama, Chainpur ki Daastaan playfully exposes the absurdities of power, bureaucracy, and human greed—reminding us that sometimes reality is stranger (and funnier) than fiction.

Winter Adé - German Movie Night
Tue Dec 16, 7:00 PM
Goethe - Zentrum Hyderabad & Lamakaan
Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, in association with Lamakaan, invites you to the German Movie Night of December 2025.

Film: Winter Adé
Director: Helke Misselwitz
Year: 1988
Language: German (with English subtitles)
Runtime:116 minutes
Colour: Black & White

Based on director Helke Misselwitz’s quietly radical vision, this 1988 documentary unfolds as a train journey across East Germany in the final year of the GDR, an odyssey stitched together by the voices of women. From factory workers to economists, teenagers to grandmothers, each woman Misselwitz meets along the tracks opens a window into her world: her joys, her frustrations, her weary resilience, and her stubborn hopes. Their candid stories gently but firmly unravel the myth of state-sponsored gender equality, revealing instead a landscape of contradictions, tender, raw, and unmistakably human.

A landmark of East German cinema, Winter Adé stands today as both a portrait of a country on the cusp of collapse and a tribute to the women whose strength carried it, questioned it, and outlasted it.

Olo ka kya
Sat Dec 27, 7:30 PM
Tasnim
A man named Holo is stopped, questioned, and watched — but no one, not even he, knows what his crime is. From a rolling bottle to bureaucratic interrogation, from fragmented memories to doubles who speak in riddles, Olo ka kya unfolds as an absurdist investigation into guilt, identity, and the invisible machinery of power.

Through shifting conversations with constables, a shadowy figure named Olo, and an ever-present sense of surveillance, the play stages a world where logic breaks down and language circles back on itself. What begins as a comic misunderstanding spirals into a surreal trial of existence itself.

Blending dark humour, psychological realism, and the theatre of the absurd, Olo ka kya holds a mirror to societies where individuals are trapped between authority and their own fractured selves.

Samahaara Workshop Productions

'Faith-Based Organizing and Social Justice' by Sravya T.

About the topic:
Faith communities have long played a crucial role in advocating for human rights and social justice worldwide. From Zohran Mamdani’s electoral victory in New York City to the shift in public opinion on Palestine in the United States, faith-based advocacy from Hindus, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikhs, and other religious communities has been key to challenging authoritarianism, imperialism, and social inequality, including within religious traditions. Join Sravya from the USA-based Hindus for Human Rights for an interactive conversation on how faith-based advocacy can be a key pillar in the strategy for social democracy.

About the Speaker:
Sravya is the deputy executive director of Hindus for Human Rights, a US-based NGO that organizes Hindus to stand up against Islamophobia, caste, and gender inequality from a Hindu faith perspective.

All are Welcome!

Film Screening: Fahrenheit 451
Sat Dec 20, 6:30 PM
Hyderabad Cinephiles
Fahrenheit 451 is a film by legendary French filmmaker Francois Truffaut. This film is based on a novel of the same name by American writer Ray Bradbury. The events of the film unfold in a totalitarian society of the future, where people are punished for reading books in order to suppress free thought and rebellion.

This 1966 film is more relevant today than ever, when the ruling class is exercising its powers to curb the democratic space in educational institutions and silence voices of dissent in the society at large.

Hyderabad Cinephiles welcomes all to join the screening and discussion.

Each Wednesday promises not just a film screening, but an immersion into the delicate art of storytelling that made Yōjirō Takita a legend.

About the Director: Yōjirō Takita, born on December 4, 1955. Known worldwide for his Academy Award-winning masterpiece Departures (2008), Takita’s journey from comic pink films to historical epics and deeply human dramas reflects a rare versatility. His works resonate because they transform intimate Japanese traditions into universal stories, inviting audiences to reflect on life, death, and the quiet dignity of human connection. His impact lies in bridging tradition with modern storytelling, proving that local narratives can achieve global acclaim.

Film Title: THE LAST RECIPE | 2017 | 126 Mins | Japan | Japanese Language with English Subtitles

About the film: The film follows Mitsuru Sasaki, a once world-class chef gifted with the rare ability to recreate any dish after tasting it just once. Having lost his passion and driven into bankruptcy by his pursuit of perfection, he begins offering “last meals” to wealthy clients at exorbitant prices. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is tasked with uncovering a legendary recipe created in 1930s Manchuria by Naotaro Yamagata, a chef whose culinary genius was entwined with Japan’s turbulent history. As Sasaki retraces the recipe’s journey across time and continents, he confronts themes of memory, legacy, and the soul of cooking itself. Blending food, mystery, and historical drama, The Last Recipe serves up a story where cuisine becomes a bridge between generations and a vessel of human connection.
