Dr. Medusa is a satirist, and her work is primarily on Twitter. She comments on current political scenarios and issues, including but not limited to feminism and any form of discrimination based on caste, class, or religion, using dark humor and satire. Her work mainly began during the first lockdown while witnessing the aftermath of the government's incompetence, which is a bigger virus than Covid any given day. She uses 3 main formats to voice her thoughts, 1. the Neighborhood Teacher who uses English language teaching as a tool to teach dissent, 2 covertly. Dukhdarshan: a news show covering today's events but in 90s style news delivery, 3. NTPC HELPLINE: the call center that disseminates the BJP IT CELL tool kit to normal subscribers.

वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् | Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
English Title: The World is Family
(Duration: 96 minutes, Year: 2023)

Synopsis:
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a Sanskrit phrase
meaning “the world is family” is a universalist
idea that competes with exclusivist Hindu
notions of caste. Anand grew up in a milieu
that questioned the latter.
The family's elders had fought for India's
Independence is rarely spoken about.
'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity,' words enshrined
in the Constitution, became subconsciously
internalised.

As Anand’s parents aged, he began to film with whatever equipment was at hand.
Soon birthdays and family gatherings gave way to oral history. Revisiting home
movie footage a decade after his parents had passed was a revelation.
Today, as confessed Hindu supremacists whose ideology once inspired the
murder of Mahatma Gandhi rewrite India's history, memo.

About the Director: Anand Patwardhan has been making
documentary films for over five decades, pursuing issues at the crux of social and political life in India. Many of his films were banned by state television channels at one time or another and became the subject of censorship rulings that Anand successfully challenged in court.
Active in movements for communal harmony and against unsustainable development, militarism, and nuclear
nationalism, Anand describes himself as “a non-serious human being forced by circumstances to make serious films.”

Film Screening followed by interaction with the film director, Anand Patwardhan.

All are Welcome!

Lamakaan and Vasantha Lakshmi
Lamakaan invites you to a spectacular film screening.

Film: Those stars in the sky
Duration: 51 minutes
Director & Producer: Deba Ranjan

Synopsis: The notion that people become stars after death is eerily ironic, given India's brutal reality of corporate-led violence and murder. Since economic reforms, common people have been sacrificed for corporate interests, losing rights and suffering environmental damage.
In Odisha, communities from Kashipur, Niyamgiri, Dhinkia, and Kaling Nagar have bravely resisted giants like Aditya Birla, Vedanta, POSCO, and TATA, suffering loss of loved ones to state or corporate-sponsored violence. This film chronicles their struggles, exposing the State's internal conflict between development and citizens' fundamental rights.

Screening followed by Q & A with the film director.

Movie analysis
Sun Mar 16, 4:00 PM
Movie club
Art and literature can be seen as extensions of the human mind. Very often they can reveal what lies within, sometimes visibly, and, sometimes, not quite so visibly. The movie club is (we hope) a fun way of looking deeper into the emotions, perceptions and thoughts that weave human relationships together or tear them apart. A movie may be treated as a true story or, alternatively, can be used as a tool to try and figure out what went on in the directors head when the movie was made. Either way, it’s a different way of understanding human behavior and relationships. In the end, by looking deeper into another’s story, we hope, perchance, to understand ourselves better.

The relevance of satire in 2025 India A Talk by Dr. Medusa.
