About Andrei Tarkovsky: Andrei Arsenyevich Tarkovsky (Russian: Андрей Арсеньевич Тарковский, IPA: [ɐnˈdrʲej ɐrˈsʲenʲjɪvʲɪtɕ tɐrˈkofskʲɪj]; 4 April 1932 – 29 December 1986) was a Russian filmmaker. Widely considered one of cinema's greatest and most influential directors, his films explore spiritual and metaphysical themes. They are noted for their slow pacing, long takes, dreamlike visual imagery, and preoccupation with nature and memory.

Tarkovsky studied film at Moscow's VGIK under filmmaker Mikhail Romm and subsequently directed his first five features in the Soviet Union: Ivan's Childhood (1962), Andrei Rublev (1966), Solaris (1972), Mirror (1975), and Stalker (1979). A number of his films from this period are ranked among the best films ever made. After years of creative conflict with state film authorities, Tarkovsky left the country in 1979 and made his final two films abroad; Nostalghia (1983) and The Sacrifice (1986) were produced in Italy and Sweden, respectively. In 1986, he also published a book about cinema and art entitled Sculpting in Time. He died later that year of cancer, possibly caused by the toxic locations used in the filming of Stalker.

Tarkovsky was the recipient of several awards at the Cannes Film Festival throughout his career (including the FIPRESCI prize, the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, and the Grand Prix Spécial du Jury and winner of the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival for his debut film Ivan's Childhood. In 1990, he was posthumously awarded the Soviet Union's prestigious Lenin Prize. Three of his films—Andrei Rublev, Mirror, and Stalker—were featured in Sight & Sound's 2012 poll of the 100 greatest films of all time.

Andrei Rublev (Russian: Андрей Рублёв, Andrey Rublyóv) is a 1966 Soviet biographical historical drama film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky and co-written with Andrei Konchalovsky. The film was re-edited from the 1966 film titled The Passion According to Andrei by Tarkovsky, which was censored during the first decade of the Brezhnev era in the Soviet Union. The film is loosely based on the life of Andrei Rublev, the 15th-century Russian icon painter. The film features Anatoly Solonitsyn, Nikolai Grinko, Ivan Lapikov, Nikolai Sergeyev, Nikolai Burlyayev, and Tarkovsky's wife, Irma Raush. Savva Yamshchikov, a famous Russian restorer and art historian, was a scientific consultant for the film.

Andrei Rublev is set against the background of early-15th-century Russia. Although the film is only loosely based on the life of Andrei Rublev, it seeks to depict a realistic portrait of medieval Russia. Tarkovsky sought to create a film that shows the artist as "a world-historic figure" and "Christianity as an axiom of Russia's historical identity" during a turbulent period of Russian history that ultimately resulted in the Tsardom of Russia.

Adapted from the Marathi Play Aaliya Bhogasi (One who comes here suffers),
the play unfolds in the backdrop of a lunatic asylum. A ward boy who makes a
mess out of reading the address of a patient mistakenly brings Protagonist
Jaggannadham, a sane man, into the asylum.
Even as Jagan cries himself hoarse and tells the deranged inmates that he isn’t
mad, they carry on with their insane capers, at times oblivious to the sane man
in their company while at other instances jeering at him for being a “mad man”.
Towards the end of the play, the protagonist is rescued by would-be
father-in-law who visits in his capacity as the health minister.

We tend to make our lives complicated, we take problems as our biggest weakness but Raj Kumar has a different logic to it, he doesn't think that problems add complications to life instead he feels it adds flavour to it!

He is here to talk about life; his life, your life, lives of a lot of middle class families and how we are entangled with the thoughts of the society and the people we live with.

​The film is centred around a military tribunal led by Chief Trial Judge Dan Haywood (Tracy), before which four German judges and prosecutors stand accused of crimes against humanity for their involvement in atrocities committed under the Nazi regime. The film deals with the Holocaust and non-combatant war crimes against a civilian population, the post-World War II situation and the geopolitical complexity of the actual Nuremberg Trials.

Museum of Migration is participatory performance piece in form of a verbal and physical dialogue between the performer and audience to explore the manifestation of the concept of “divide” in our minds. The dance and dialogue tries to establish Divide as the consequence of intentional or forced migration among humans.

The Sacrifice (Swedish: Offret) is a 1986 drama film written and directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. Starring Erland Josephson, the film was produced by the Swedish Film Institute. Many of the crew were alumni of Ingmar Bergman's films.

The Sacrifice centers on a middle-aged intellectual who attempts to bargain with God to stop an impending nuclear holocaust. The film combines pagan and Christian religious themes; Tarkovsky called it a "parable".

Majdhar is a play where different people who want to cross the river, get on boat but get stuck in middle of a storm. Among them is a journalist "Shruthi" who is chasing a politician's son to get his story, there is a student leader "Lallan" who is a big politician's son with many criminal cases to his credit who comes along with his PA "Adi", who is twisted and corrupt guy. There is also a schoolboy called "Chambi" who is hydrophobic and is bullied by the PA. Jhoomru is the boat driver that is nakhuda. Come and watch "Majdhar", a beautiful story.

About Orson Welles: George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter who is remembered for his innovative work in film, radio, and theatre. He is considered among the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time.

In 1937, he and John Houseman founded the Mercury Theatre, an independent repertory theatre company that presented a series of productions on Broadway through 1941, including Caesar (1937), a modern, politically charged adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

In 1938, his radio anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air gave Welles the platform to find international fame as the director and narrator of a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds, which caused some listeners to believe that a Martian invasion was occurring. Although reports of panic were mostly false and overstated, they rocketed 23-year-old Welles to notoriety.

His first film was Citizen Kane (1941), which is consistently ranked as one of the greatest films ever made, and he co-wrote, produced, directed, and starred in as the title character, Charles Foster Kane. Welles released twelve other features, the most acclaimed of which include The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Touch of Evil (1958), The Trial (1962), Chimes at Midnight (1966) and F for Fake (1973). As a part of the Catalysing Change Week 2023, Rubaroo, in collaboration with Catalyst 2030 is hosting a panel discussion on the topic: "Youth in Employment – Aspirations in the Social Sector" on the 5th of May, 2023. Catalyst 2030 is a global movement of people and organisations aspiring to achieve the Global Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and we are thrilled to be inviting you to be a panellist for this event.
Rubaroo is a youth development organisation based in Hyderabad since 2014. Rubaroo engages young people on social issues of social justice by bringing them 'face to face' with realities around them. We work on issues of Gender, Interfaith and Youth Development with young people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, we will also be launching the first cohort of our Gender programme, the Emerging Leaders Programme 2023-24.

Six Yards Plus is a Hyderabad based startup that helps MORE women, MORE sarees, MORE often. We carry sarees from across India, some of them are curated and some are our signature designs. We are women run, work with over 300 artisans from across India, and incorporate sustainability into everything that we do. In our effort to help more women drape more sarees more often, we have created several category first initiatives, focused around sustainability. First, we have a line of preloved sarees called Dobara. Launched last year, Dobara has been instrumental in saving close to 3 L litres of water by increasing longevity of sarees and finding loving new homes for sarees. Second, our initiative SaRevive helps give a second lease of life to sarees in your wardrobe. We reinvent them with printing, painting and traditional craft techniques to help you preserve and use sarees for a longer period of time. Third, Antara, our upcycling studio helps you transform your sarees into functional home decor/frameables to increase their longevity, and to help you have them as a part of your life 😊 Finally, Sareetonin is our donation initiative where we incentivise clients to donate sarees which they no longer use. All of these initiatives have received a very positive response from our customers, and we have been able to add to the circular economy thereby impacting clients, climate and communities. So far, we have been running these initiatives from our website, on WhatsApp and in person at our store in Sagar Society. This April marks one year of these initiatives and we would like to celebrate this with an event to increase awareness about the initiatives and encourage sustainable, mindful consumption. On 6 May, Saturday, therefore, we would like to hold a series of discussions and workshops focused on sustainable consumption. In addition, we would like to put up and exhibition cum sale of preloved sarees as well as discuss revival of sarees. We believe that the Lamakaan space represents an approach that encourages slow and mindful consumption and would be the perfect for the event we have in mind.

How to write a character-based screenplay? The workshop covers all the fundamental concepts of screenplay writing along with a main focus on character. With examples from famous movies (English, Hindi, and Telugu). We explore main screenplay components like conflict, theme, plot, originality, etc.

​The Young Karl Marx, directed by Haitian filmmaker and political activist Raoul Peck, shows Marx, in his 20s, struggling to establish himself among the contemporary thinkers of the 19th century.

Disom – The Leadership School is an experiment started by Disom Foundation (www.disomfoundation.org) to nurture future ethical servant leaders for public life. Inspired by the Matsushita Institute for Government and Management in Japan, Disom intends to address a critical need in India at this time: selfless leaders, committed to the community and ultimately answerable to their “inner voice”

Disom offers a 15-month full-time programme which is experiential in nature and where the fellows practice
- Listening to each other and to their own inner voices,
- Living with and embracing diversity, and also
- Deep democracy, in its truest sense

Currently, our second batch with 19 fellows is underway since the last seven months. Our fellows are a diverse group, from 9 different states of the country, from different socio- economic backgrounds, with different educational and professional backgrounds, professing different faiths and ideologies.

Our programme involves travelling to different parts of the country, meeting people, seeing things and understanding the pain of communities. All the time, working on one’s own self. So it is as much a journey within as it is without.

We are in Hyderabad from May 9 to May 31. We would like to
Interact with young people to discuss about how we can collectively reimagine this new type of leadership that is so required today. We invite dreamers, pioneers, disrupters, artists, mavericks for this interaction planned at Lamakaan on Wednesday, May 10 from 5-7 pm.

the play unfolds in the backdrop of a lunatic asylum. A ward boy who makes a
mess out of reading the address of a patient mistakenly brings Protagonist
Jaggannadham, a sane man, into the asylum.
Even as Jagan cries himself hoarse and tells the deranged inmates that he isn’t
mad, they carry on with their insane capers, at times oblivious to the sane man
in their company while at other instances jeering at him for being a “mad man”.
Towards the end of the play, the protagonist is rescued by would-be
father-in-law who visits in his capacity as the health minister.

He is here to talk about life; his life, your life, lives of a lot of middle class families and how we are entangled with the thoughts of the society and the people we live with.

​The film is centred around a military tribunal led by Chief Trial Judge Dan Haywood (Tracy), before which four German judges and prosecutors stand accused of crimes against humanity for their involvement in atrocities committed under the Nazi regime. The film deals with the Holocaust and non-combatant war crimes against a civilian population, the post-World War II situation and the geopolitical complexity of the actual Nuremberg Trials.

Museum of Migration is participatory performance piece in form of a verbal and physical dialogue between the performer and audience to explore the manifestation of the concept of “divide” in our minds. The dance and dialogue tries to establish Divide as the consequence of intentional or forced migration among humans.

Majdhar is a play where different people who want to cross the river, get on boat but get stuck in middle of a storm. Among them is a journalist "Shruthi" who is chasing a politician's son to get his story, there is a student leader "Lallan" who is a big politician's son with many criminal cases to his credit who comes along with his PA "Adi", who is twisted and corrupt guy. There is also a schoolboy called "Chambi" who is hydrophobic and is bullied by the PA. Jhoomru is the boat driver that is nakhuda. Come and watch "Majdhar", a beautiful story.

Catalyst 2030 is a global movement of people and organisations aspiring to achieve the Global Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and we are thrilled to be inviting you to be a panellist for this event.
Rubaroo is a youth development organisation based in Hyderabad since 2014. Rubaroo engages young people on social issues of social justice by bringing them 'face to face' with realities around them. We work on issues of Gender, Interfaith and Youth Development with young people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, we will also be launching the first cohort of our Gender programme, the Emerging Leaders Programme 2023-24.

Six Yards Plus is a Hyderabad based startup that helps MORE women, MORE sarees, MORE often. We carry sarees from across India, some of them are curated and some are our signature designs. We are women run, work with over 300 artisans from across India, and incorporate sustainability into everything that we do. In our effort to help more women drape more sarees more often, we have created several category first initiatives, focused around sustainability. First, we have a line of preloved sarees called Dobara. Launched last year, Dobara has been instrumental in saving close to 3 L litres of water by increasing longevity of sarees and finding loving new homes for sarees. Second, our initiative SaRevive helps give a second lease of life to sarees in your wardrobe. We reinvent them with printing, painting and traditional craft techniques to help you preserve and use sarees for a longer period of time. Third, Antara, our upcycling studio helps you transform your sarees into functional home decor/frameables to increase their longevity, and to help you have them as a part of your life 😊 Finally, Sareetonin is our donation initiative where we incentivise clients to donate sarees which they no longer use. All of these initiatives have received a very positive response from our customers, and we have been able to add to the circular economy thereby impacting clients, climate and communities. So far, we have been running these initiatives from our website, on WhatsApp and in person at our store in Sagar Society. This April marks one year of these initiatives and we would like to celebrate this with an event to increase awareness about the initiatives and encourage sustainable, mindful consumption. How to write a character-based screenplay? The workshop covers all the fundamental concepts of screenplay writing along with a main focus on character. With examples from famous movies (English, Hindi, and Telugu). We explore main screenplay components like conflict, theme, plot, originality, etc.

Disom – The Leadership School is an experiment started by Disom Foundation (www.disomfoundation.org) to nurture future ethical servant leaders for public life. Inspired by the Matsushita Institute for Government and Management in Japan, Disom intends to address a critical need in India at this time: selfless leaders, committed to the community and ultimately answerable to their “inner voice”

Disom offers a 15-month full-time programme which is experiential in nature and where the fellows practice
- Listening to each other and to their own inner voices,
- Living with and embracing diversity, and also
- Deep democracy, in its truest sense

Currently, our second batch with 19 fellows is underway since the last seven months. Our fellows are a diverse group, from 9 different states of the country, from different socio- economic backgrounds, with different educational and professional backgrounds, professing different faiths and ideologies.

Our programme involves travelling to different parts of the country, meeting people, seeing things and understanding the pain of communities. All the time, working on one’s own self. So it is as much a journey within as it is without.

About Orson Welles: George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter who is remembered for his innovative work in film, radio, and theatre. He is considered among the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time.

In 1937, he and John Houseman founded the Mercury Theatre, an independent repertory theatre company that presented a series of productions on Broadway through 1941, including Caesar (1937), a modern, politically charged adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.

In 1938, his radio anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air gave Welles the platform to find international fame as the director and narrator of a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds, which caused some listeners to believe that a Martian invasion was occurring. Although reports of panic were mostly false and overstated, they rocketed 23-year-old Welles to notoriety.

His first film was Citizen Kane (1941), which is consistently ranked as one of the greatest films ever made, and he co-wrote, produced, directed, and starred in as the title character, Charles Foster Kane. Welles released twelve other features, the most acclaimed of which include The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Touch of Evil (1958), The Trial (1962), Chimes at Midnight (1966) and F for Fake (1973). His distinctive directorial style featured layered and nonlinear narrative forms, dramatic lighting, unusual camera angles, sound techniques borrowed from radio, deep focus shots and long takes. David Thomson credits Welles with "the creation of a visual style that is simultaneously baroque and precise, overwhelmingly emotional, and unerringly founded in reality." He has been praised as "the ultimate auteur". Among Welles's notable roles in films by other directors are Rochester in Jane Eyre (1943), Harry Lime in The Third Man (1949) and Cardinal Wolsey in A Man for All Seasons (1966). Welles was a lifelong lover of Shakespeare, and Peter Bogdanovich writes that Chimes at Midnight, in which Welles plays John Falstaff, is "arguably his best film, and his own personal favorite"; Joseph McBride and Jonathan Rosenbaum have called it Welles's masterpiece, and Vincent Canby wrote, "it may be the greatest Shakespearean film ever made."

About the film: The Trial is a 1962 drama directed by Orson Welles, who also wrote the screenplay based on the 1925 posthumously published novel of the same name by Franz Kafka. Welles stated immediately after completing the film: "The Trial is the best film I have ever made".
Josef K wakes up in the morning and finds the police in his room. They inform him he is on trial without exposing the reasons behind it. To find out more and protest his innocence, the man starts to look behind the facade of the judicial system. His efforts, however, seem to lead nowhere.
