Learn, Unlearn & Relearn
Sat Dec 6, 2:30 PM
Passion And Life (www.meetup.com/passionandlife)
As futurist and philosopher Alvin Toffler once wrote: “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”

Learning, unlearning, and re-learning has to become a life-long pursuit?

While we’re all born with an intense desire to learn, somewhere along the line many of us or at some point of time lose our passion for learning.

So let's come and discuss why this learning, unlearning & relearning is required and how does it happen, the challenges we face!!!

VOICES OF THE MARGINALISED
Sat Dec 6, 6:30 PM
Lamakaan program committee
On the death anniversary of Dr.BR Ambedkar, Holding an open forum titled "Voices from the Marginalised Society" with people from various societies participating.
Caste system is one most affecting evil in our country. Discriminations are have been ever increasing and atrocities are on a greater prowl. The thrive towards equality has only remained farce as the marginalized still remain vulnerable to the brutal atrocities right from Khairlanji incident to the recent attacks in Osmania University campus on a aDalit leader. The Dalit communities are always gripped by the constant fear of brutal violence being committed against them. The recent Badaun Dalit girl’s massacre investigation exposes the lampoon state of affairs and Chunduru Massacre judgment manifests the legal atrocities which are also being constantly inflicted upon them, leaving no respite. While, Denying them land, resources, education, social exclusion and sexual assaults on the Dalit women still remain as the most predominant ways of discrimination across the country, the strive for “Social Equality” has not brought much joy into even those Dalits who are trying to overhaul the odds and lead dignified lives, as they are being made to face newer kinds of discrimination in the educational institutions, work spaces and in all other Urban Specta as well.
This discussion by eminent panelists is followed by an open discussion will address the “Nuances of Caste Discrimination in today’s world”.

All are welcome. Entry - Free.

Love, Lust & Mocha
Sun Dec 7, 7:30 PM
Underdog entertainment
LLM is a quirky rom-com, that infuses slam poetry and theatre as one, is a satire on modern chick flicks that creates a twist on the male-female relationship. Bubbly and frothy, this theatrical effort takes a quirky look at the mans cup of woes, which seems to runneth over! A comic perspective of all the men who have been stirred (and shaken!) over the years, even though they have tried to sweeten their lives with spoonfuls of sugar! The cup of mocha is probably steamier than the love and lust in their lives! A hilarious romantic comedy which the men in the audience are sure to identify with! The play is bought to you by Underdog.

Warning: The content may be explicit comedy in nature. Please use your discretion before you buy the ticket.

Thu Dec 11, 7:30 PM
Dramanon
THE CLUELESS COMIC: Thursday the 11th of December:
Lamakaan @ 7:45 pm. Entry ticket : Rupees 100 only

'IMPROV' theatre which largely implies 'Improvisation' in a performance where a loosely structured plot and situation, given by the audience is enacted by ACTORS/ PERFORMERS without any preparation!

The event will have 6 to 7 actors / performers who will participate in various rounds. Each of those rounds have their own ground rules which are ...well... absurd to say the least.

The performers have to work within those rules set by the coordinator and the plot/ characters given by the audience. The event coordinator who controls the proceedings, hopefully has some clue on how to take things forward and in some cases backward ?

So get ready for a mindless, nonsensical and unexpectedly witty evening as we entertain you. How are we going to do that....Well....We are as 'CLUELESS' as you are 🙂

The performers: Kanishka DasGupta, Harika Vedula, Sona Reddy, Harish bharadwaj, Sishir Challa, Venkata Maddala and Varun
Event controlled and directed by RK Shenoy.

Two Masters of Hindustani Music
Thu Dec 18, 7:00 PM
Docu Circle
RAVI SHANKAR

26 min, 1970
Director – Pramod Pati
Produced by Films Division

Pramod Pati, one of Films Division’s most
experimentative film makers seems restrained while making this film. So, the film is only mildly over the top (unlike his other films), switching effortlessly from delightful cinema-verite in the opening sequence as Pandit ji entertains guests at a party and plays back recordings of his work, to concert sequences which go from being studied to flamboyant before you notice.
We see Ustad Alla Rakha performing with Ravi Shankar, as he talks about spending most of his time abroad and facing criticism for compromising, westernizing his music, to make it hippie-friendly. He says he performs shorter pieces to make Indian music accessible to people in the west.

Pandit ji, the consummate performer, charms with ease, whether at home or on stage. reason for it being an inspiration and beacon to coming generations of musicians. He talks of Kumar Gandharva as not a singing legend but as musicologist too.

HANS AKELA

'Hans Akela' defying the traditional norms of a documentary becomes a delightful journey into the world of the singing legend Kumar Gandharva who not only defied the norms of traditional Hindustani Classical but critically analyzed traditional Hindustani Classical before revolutionizing it. Highlighting on the various facades of his life, his work and his music are friends, family, followers and fans. A treasure trove of information, incidents, photographs and some rare footage unravels through these people who at some points in their lives or Kumarji's have been a part of his art and his life.

Kumar Gandharva is a legend in the world of Hindustani music. Jabbar Patel pieces together his story using the familiar conventions ofdocumentary film making- interviews, footage, photographs.

This process creates an archive of information and images that has immensevalue for all music lovers.

Jabbar Patel : Born in 1942, Maharashtra, Dr Patel is pediatrician by education and runs a polyclinic at Daund, on the outskirts of Pune, with his wife, a gynecologist. Inspired by the richness of Marathi literature he was drawn to theatre where he made a name for himself as a director of refinement and perception. His most famous play is the Vijay Tendulakar written `Ghashiram Kotwal' which has been staged all over the world. Dr. Patel has also directed several highly regarded feature films. Filmography: `Maharashtra' (1986), `S. M. Joshi' (1987), `Laxman Joshi' (1989) `Forts of Maharashtra' (1990), `Indian Theatre' (1990), `Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar' (1994).

FD Zone is a monthly docu event organised in collaboration with Films Division, Mumbai. Apart from remarkable old and new documentaries commissioned by FD, it also features accomplished independent Indian and foreign documentaries.

The Dinner
Sun Dec 21, 8:00 PM
Naren Yadav
The plot revolves around the waiting of two chefs and their preparation of Dinner for His Highness .The Highness is metaphorically the authority, who wields his power through the symbolic tool of communication.
The commands pronounced through an archaic phone breaks and fragments the monotonous moments of waiting. The director breathes in creative moments of imagined realities through the power of improvisations. These suspended moments studded with aspirations, hopes, and strategies make the plot grow with its philosophical perspectives on life, fall and fortunes of human being. In short the play is truly meaningful in theme, style and approach and is open to audience's interpretations.

We are young. We have a life. We have a future.

College is great fun, even though academics get in the way. We manage. It's all cool, you know?

There comes a day when we have to bid Farewell. One day to school, one day to college, one day to childhood, one day to bachelorhood and...one day to life.

What will they say about us later? They will lie. They will miss us and they will cry. Then they say Farewell, adieu adieu...what's the big to-do? You've been there, so will I, I've been there, so will you.

For your voyeuristic pleasure (because I have it and so do you), we invite you into our lives. It's the last day, it's the end of an era.

There is a scandal. There is a message. There is a teacher, but are we ready to learn? Because when the student is ready, the teacher will arrive. And life teaches you the most important lessons of them all.

Andhon Ka Haathi
Thu Jan 1, 8:00 PM
UDAAN Performing Arts
UDAAN Performing Arts, presents its workshop production "Anhdon Ka Haathi" written by Sharad Joshi and directed by Saurabh Gharipurikar.

About The Play - The play though written many years ago has a concept that is quite contemporary. It unfolds the political and social scenario of the country. Based on a famous wisdom tale “The Elephant of Blinds” the play is a hard-hitting satire on politicians and their approach in handling the affairs of the country.

The plot revolves around five blinds and an elephant. Sutradhar, the presenter of the play brings an elephant before five blinds and requests them to identify, recognize and gave their own interpretations of it. He also tells them to find out the possible threats from it. In the process, the blinds catch hold of different parts of the elephant’s body like trunk, ear, leg, tale and the stomach.

Here starts a fight between five blinds over their difference of opinion about the elephant. The conflict symbolizes the fight between different political ideologies and religious beliefs. The blinds represent the establishment and its handling of the National issue. In a highly intellectual manner the whole theatrical events draws the true picture of our country. When the narrator of the play tries to expose them, the blinds kill him. The play shows how the system never wants to be questioned. Anybody dares to do so has to suffer the narrator’s fate.

Jan Samwaad - Urban Folk Music
Sat Jan 3, 7:00 PM
Jan Samwaad
A faculty at The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), a musician, a composer, a poet, and a social activist, Negi's music fits into the genre of urban folk engaging the audience into social and political issues plaguing our society and our times. These renditions, written, composed and sung by him are simple in form yet profound in essence.

The compositions are a melange of personal and social issues encouraging the audience to ponder over some fundamental, stereotypical and preconceived societal concerns. Through this music he strikes conversations with the masses on questions whether it is worth spending the entire life trying to find God,the "eternal" or "divine" without lending attention to the issues that we face in our daily life.

A mixed bag of songs that touch upon a variety of social predicaments, be it the very relevant issue of illegal and unjust land acquisition from a farmer whose life is but synonymous to drudgery, to the quest of a newly married innocent young girl to find a sojourn for herself as she embarks upon an endless journey of responsibilities and expectations. The hopelessness and despair that is so marked of today’s common man and his experiences owing to a variety of issues is something that genuinely concerns him. It is in this wake of despondency that the listeners are egged to rethink if the efforts to find an “external” source of peace or power are worthwhile at all. Recognizing the need to restore communal harmony in a society with disintegrating values, he seeks to challenge the motives of the perpetrators of communal hatred who still exist among us, more so as they are positioned in the power centre now.

Along this journey he uses the “traditional”, but yes, only to question the “traditional” and employ the “typical” to disengage from it and look at the “atypical”, sharing his thoughts through his music in Hindi, English and Spanish.
