About Play:

PRASTHAAV is a play in Hindi, adapted from Anton Chekov's 'A Marriage Proposal' written in 1888-1889 and first performed in 1890. It is a fast-paced play of dialogue-based action and situational humor.

A hilarious play depicting romance and marriage. The farce explores the process of getting married and is a satire on the upper middle class and courtship. The play points out the struggle to balance the economic necessities of marriage and what the characters themselves actually want. It shows that marriage is a mean of economic stability for most people and they marry to gain wealth and possessions or to satisfy social pressure.

Madan Sharma, a long-time neighbor of Shree Kamalprasad Varma, has come with a marriage proposal for Varmaji's daughter Radha but gets into an argument with her about the disputed land and also about their respective hunting dogs.

Watch the play to see if Sharma ultimately manages to propose her or not ? Lets see if he and Radha will get married or not.

About Writer:
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was a Russian playwright and short story writer who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short fiction in history. His career as a playwright produced four classics and his best short stories are held in high esteem by writers and critics.
Alan Twigg, the chief editor and publisher of the Canadian book review magazine BC Bookworld wrote,

“One can argue Anton Chekhov is the second-most popular writer on the planet. Only Shakespeare outranks Chekhov in terms of movie adaptations of their work, according to the movie database IMDb. ... We generally know less about Chekhov than we know about mysterious Shakespeare”.
